New Delhi, February 4 Delhi, champions in Ranji Trophy’s longer version, will now gear up to play the one-day version of the meet. On February 16, they name their squad for the first match, to be played ten days hence.

This morning 30-odd players were sweating it out at the Ferozeshah Kotla, under the guidance of coach Vijay Dahiya.

Of the 44 who were called for the trial, Gautam Gambhir, Ishant Sharma, Virat Kohli and Pradeep Sangwan are on national duty.

Ten others, including Kuunal Lall and Ashish Nehra were not around because of various reasons.

The coach expects them to join up next week.

Club matches have also come in the way. A player, on the condition of anonymity, told the Sportline that he got the information about him being on the list of 44 through one of his friends who has managed to make it to the trials.

“No one informed me that my name was among the 44. It was only when my friend called me up that I got to know. I called up my club coach and he confirmed that I should be present for the trials,” the player said.

The day saw Vijay Dahiya focusing mainly on the fitness and concentrated on spinners and wicket-keepers. “I wanted to see how the youngsters are,” Dahiya said.

While the spinners were trying hard to impress the coach, the pacers, led by Amit Bhandari, was seen doing fitness drills.

The ODI squad is expected to see a couple of changes from the champion Ranji squad.

“We will have four-five changes from the Ranji squad as we need one-day specialists. The trials are being done and the floor is open to everyone.

“We will be playing couple of practice matches before we shortlist the players,” Dahiya added.
