Delhi is nations' 'rape capital': BJP MP in Rajya Sabha

New Dehi, April 21: Grave concern was expressed in the Rajya Sabha over the growing cases of crime against women in the national capital with a BJP member dubbing it as the country's "rape capital".

Raising the matter through a Special Mention, BJP's Gyan Prakash Pilania said that Delhi was witnessing mounting cases of assault on women.

"Delhi has become the rape capital of India," he said and demanded that the Home Minister take corrective steps on war footing.

Mahendra Mohan (SP) expressed concern over the crisis caused by acute shortage of NCERT books for new session. Abu Asam Azmi (SP) made a strong demand for inclusion of Dalit Muslims in the Scheduled Caste category.

Kalraj Mishra (BJP) expressed concern over the health hazard caused by disposal of Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs). Harish Rawat (Cong) demanded recruitment of local youth in Uttarakhand in regular services of armed forces, ITBP and SSB. He said the youth were trained in self defence and disaster management.

T Subbarami Reddy (Cong) sought exemption of Andhra Pradesh from payment of outstanding dues on account on deployment of central para-military forces. Lalit Kishore Chaturvedi (BJP) wanted change in the standards of per capita distribution of water in Rajasthan.

Tarlochan Singh (Ind) wanted installation of a statue of Lukhy Shah Vanjara, on whose land the Parliament Complex, the Rashtrapati Bhawan and the Central Secretariat were built.
