Kolkata, April 01 The technologies being used by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) to develop the slums in its area will now be followed by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), said mayor of MCD, Aarti Mehra, today. Mehra, along with 14 other municipal councillors of Delhi, visited the KMC headquarters this afternoon.

“We have received Rs 450 crore from Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) to develop the slums of Delhi. We are here to know the details, how Kolkata is using the JNNURM funds to change the face of the slums,” said Mehra.

Mehra, along with her team of councilors, visited the slums in the Park Circus area where work of remodeling the slums will start soon.

“We are here to see how KMC is using JNNURM money in developing the slum areas of Kolkata. My engineers will try to incorporate the details of the developmental work and implement it for the betterment of the slum areas in Delhi,” added Mehra.

A sum of Rs 200 crore has been funded by JNNURM to develop the slums of Kolkata. Ten per cent out of 5,000 slums have been identified for conducting the developmental work. Five-storied dwelling units in these areas will replace thousands of shanties.
