The BSP, taking a lead in announcing candidates for the elections, had earlier come out with a list of 38 nominees in March, following it yesterday with another 22 names.
Out of the 60 candidates whose names have been announced so far, 22 belong to upper castes.
A total of 13 candidates are Dalits, who have made it to the two lists, while 20 others are from the Backward Classes.
Five of the candidates are Muslims.
Three women also figure in the two lists.
Buoyed by the substantial increase in its number of seats in the municipal elections held last year, the BSP plans to contest from all 70 constituencies in Delhi.
The party is fielding three sitting municipal councillors taking into account their popularity in their areas, BSP Delhi unit President Jogram Bhatti, the party candidate from Karawal Nagar constituency said.
He said the candidates for the remaining ten seats will be announced later this month.
"We have announced the candidates much ahead of other parties and this will help us to acquaint ourselves with the constituency. We are going to give other parties a run for their money," Bhatti said.

I was recently in Delhi for about two months and I can see a feel-good factor for the present administration led by Mrs Sheila Dikshit. I have seen the all around development but still I feel that Delhiites always wants much more. BSP is not liked by Delhiites and BJP one day will have tyo work jointly to run the country if they both love their country to isolate the Left Group who are out and out pro Chinease ideology which no Indian likes. They must be totally wiped out and if both the national parties join hands right now, they can even be uprooted from Bengal too. I have been to Kolkota recently and I see the law of jungle prevails there.
This is good politics and fair treatment to both high and low cast sections. BJP should also replicate and field from low cast and backward classes.
How about going by merit and nothing else ? You talk of fair treatment to all sections of society ... how about fair treatment to the country by putting up candidates who have merit and who will serve ALL Indians irrespective of clas etc ?
Hey Ram! If you see the politicians who ruled our States last so many governments all over India and at the Centre you will see that the high caste is now bereft of new ideas to solve problems of New India. If we look carefully we realize merit exists everywhere and is not a monopoly of high castes. The other castes possess not only merit but also new and better ideas to get over this unwanted caste/class divisions in the society. Accommodating all castes/classes in the political process can diminish the hatred of high caste towards low caste/backward classes and vice versa. This will aid in forming a cohesive society which will be based more on loving-kindness towards one another.
That is exactly what I am saying ..... merit is not the monopoly of any class/caste. Then why should we make special exemptions (i.e. reservations/quota) for any group ? Instead give merit its due and automatically the ones who meet the merit criteria will rise ! The only ones who deserve any exemptions/reservations/quotas should be the ECONOMICALLY backward. Those who claim to be backward by birth are as bad as those who claim superiority by birth. Jai Hind !!
The BJP is a Manuwadi party. It believes in the hegemony of the Higher castes. It does not believe in the dismantling of Caste system but to perpetuate it. So the strategy devise by BSP of Sarvajan Hitay, Sarvajan Sukhay is a far dream for BJP. It require the feeling of Eqality to think of such strategy.
