Panchkula, January 11 In an effort to clear the illegal constructions along the National Highway 22 to add more lanes to the existing road, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) today completed the process of demolition on the Pinjore stretch of the highway. With as many as three JCB machines pressed into service amidst high security, the 10-hour long demolition drive started at around 9 am today.

“The process of demolition at Pinjore was completed today in the presence of about 150 police personnel. The drive concluded peacefully without anyone protesting against it. With the first phase completed in Pinjore areas, the drive will continue in Kalka for which notices will be served to about 250 shopkeepers in Kalka,” said PWD (B and R) National Highway wing executive engineer, BR Kapoor. He further added that disruptions in the smooth flow of the traffic due to the demolition were unavoidable.

According to the passersby, they have to face an ordeal due to the traffic chaos on the highway throughout the day.

A police official on duty said that the traffic flow on the highway was worse than what it was on Thursday. “A large number of traffic personnel were pressed into service to control the traffic chaos,” added the police official.
