Lucknow, January9: Condemning police action on party workers in Lucknow and Etawah, Samajwadi Party President Mulayam Singh Yadav on Wednesday said the peaceful demonstrators were targeted on the directives of Chief Minister Mayawati.

Yadav told reporters that police opened fire on the peaceful demonstrators in Saifai in Etawah killing one worker and causing injuries to several others.

Demanding lodging of a murder case against Etawah SSP, Yadav said he should be arrested for targeting SP demonstrators.

Warning the state government, Yadav said governments in the past that targeted students and subjected them to atrocities had not been able to continue for long.

Exhorting party workers to oppose government atrocities and terror tactics on the roads in a peaceful manner, he asked them to be prepared for facing action.

Later addressing reporters, SP MP Reoti Raman Singh also condemned police action on party workers and its leaders.

Terming the action as most barbaric, he said the arbitrary police and government action have led to an Emergency-like situation.

Singh said the government is trying to ban opposition’s democratic right to oppose the government and when senior SP leaders demonstrated against lathicharge on students they were humiliated and this is most condemnable.

He demanded suspension of Lucknow SSP and lodging of a murder case against the Etawah SSP.
