New Delhi, September 12 With 21 more cases of dengue viral fever reported on Friday, the total number of cases reported so far this season crossed the 200 mark. And with their inspection staff on mass strike, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is grappling with the problem of containing mosquito breeding.

“Twenty-one more patients tested positive for the virus today; it takes the number of afflicted persons to 209 this season,” MCD’s health committee chairman V K Monga said. While five fresh cases were reported from Rohini, three each were found in Shahadra, Civil Lines and South Delhi. The remaining cases were detected from Narela, Najafgarh and West Delhi.

This comes at a time when 2,500 mosquito-breeding checking employees are on strike. The workers, employed with MCD on contract basis, are demanding regularisation of their jobs. “It is still not an epidemic situation as cases are expected to peak during this time of the year,” Monga said.
