Lucknow The Election Commission was watching, so Atti Pandey had to settle for a “low profile and not very special” wedding on January 18, instead of the grand affair her husband had planned.

She also didn’t go on a honeymoon but instead has spent the past three days going door to door, seeking ‘aashirvaad’ — votes for her husband, Tej Narain Pandey alias Pawan, who is contesting his first election from Ayodhya on a Samajwadi Party ticket.

Pandey says his wife isn’t out for just votes. “We have to visit personally so many people who could not attend the wedding,” he says.

Pandey and Atti are canvassing separately. They are also holding post-wedding functions, where the bride takes the stage and urges the guest to vote for her husband as a wedding gift. “This is the first time I am urging people to vote. It is a new experience for me,”Atti says.
