New Delhi In a relief to Murli Deora, the Election Commission on Tuesday gave him a clean chit saying the Petroleum Minister did not violate the Model Code of Conduct when he referred to taking a decision on the fuel prices after assembly polls in six states.

EC sources said that the Commission looked into the video clippings and found no substance in the complaint made against Deora.

Deora came under attack last week for his remarks on fuel prices after the conclusion of assembly polls.

The sources said that the Minister did not announce that a reduction would be effected. He only said that a decision on the issue would be taken after the polls.

Opposition BJP had approached the EC seeking action against Deora following which the Commission sought explanation from the minister.

In his reply, Deora said he had not violated the Model Code of Conduct for elections saying he indicated only a likely review of fuel prices by government after the polls to six state Assemblies and did not announce a policy decision or financial grant.

After crude oil prices fell from all-time high of USD 147 per barrel in July to around USD 50, there has been a demand to slash the prices of petroleum products.
