While most of the teachers have been placed under suspension, the services of some teachers were terminated and others were forced to face disciplinary action.
Education Department officials said nearly 27 government schoolteachers have been suspended. The retirement benefits of the suspended teachers have been withdrawn.
DPI (S) S K Setia said, “Many teachers in different government schools are not interested in teaching the students. They are more concerned about their salaries and other benefits.”
The department also terminated the services of two contractual teachers employed under the Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan.
The department has also held back the increments of some teachers.
A senior department official said, “Action against 10 inquiries is pending. A decision regarding them will be taken in a couple of days.”
Meanwhile, school principals feel the action against the teachers should be postponed to the end of the academic session.
A principal of a government college said, “ Disciplinary action against the teachers not only causes delays in completing the syllabus. It also causes problems for school officials as the entire timetable of the school needs to be reworked. ”
