New Delhi, February 3 Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit said de-sealing was not an election gimmick but a genuine step taken by the government, on court orders, to improve the life of Delhi’s citizens.

She said this after inaugurating an underground reservoir and booster pumping station at Mahavir Swami Park, Kailash Nagar. Minister for Education & Tourism Arvinder Singh Lovely, Member of Parliament Sandeep Dixit and Delhi Jal Board CEO Arun Mathur were also present. The reservoir one lakh gallon capacity

Speaking at the function, Dikshit said that according to orders issued by the Ministry of Urban Development, dated January 31, 2008, the local bodies were directed to de-seal properties and maintain status quo in respect of all encroachment and unauthorised developments — illegal — which existed on March 31, 2002, and on January 02, 2007. The government has been trying to protect the interest of the residents while honouring directives issued by the courts. Dikshit said that under the directions of the Central government, and according to the Act passed by the Parliament, no property should be sealed in Delhi. She said that the state government along with the Centre is trying to get relief for the Delhites. She said that this recent notification by the government has nothing to do with the upcoming elections and her government is committed to the betterment of life for citizens of Delhi. She said that no one should live with a sense of fear with regard to sealing of their properties any more.
