In line with the notification issued by the Urban Development Ministry last week, the civic body had de-sealed only one property in Rwal village in Saidullahjaib in south Delhi yesterday.
Officials said before starting with the de-sealing process, a survey has to be conducted for an accurate list of properties, roughly estimated to be around 4,000. According to a senior MCD official, the decision was taken at a meeting held with the deputy commissioners of all zones today. "We will continue action as and when we get information on the properties exempted under the notification. Action taken will be relatively slower than expected," the official said. He said the civic body will also refer to the de-sealing applications being submitted following an advertisement given out by MCD yesterday asking property owners to send in requests for de-sealing.
The January 30 notification has asked the MCD to de-seal properties falling under Section 3(1) of The National Capital Territory of Delhi Laws (Special Provisions) Act, 2007.
The Act covers slum dwellers and jhuggi jhopri clusters, hawkers and urban street vendors, unauthorised colonies, village abadi areas and their extensions, existing farm houses, schools, dispensaries, religious institutions, cultural institutions, storages and warehouses and godowns used for agricultural inputs in rural areas built on agricultural land.
