The 18-year-old Patel played a Mumbai slumdweller Jamal in the rags-to-riches story which depicts the extraordinary journey of the protagonist from oblivion to fame and fortune as he goes on to win USD 20 million on the Indian version of 'Who wants to Be A Millionaire?'.

The film also stars two real life Mumbai slum children Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail and Rubina Ali, who were flown from their slum houses to attend the star-studded Oscar ceremony on February 22.

The British-Indian actor, who plays the grown-up Jamal in the film, is reportedly in talks to appear on the ‘ITV1’ gameshow along with Oscar-winning British director Danny Boyle, the ‘Sun’ reported.

The producers may even rope in Indian actress Frieda Pinto as 'phone a friend' to recreate the story of the film during the show.

Patel has collaborated with a UK-based children's charity Railway Children to appear on the show. The charity organisation helps street children.

The chief executive of Railway Children, Terina Keene confirmed that Patel and Boyle were in talks to appear on a celebrity version of the quiz show hosted by Chris Tarrant.

A spokeswoman for 'Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?' producers Celador also confirmed the news, saying, "We were approached by Railway Children about doing the special and we think it would be fantastic.

"Danny and Dev would play together, as with all our celebrity specials, but filming depends on their availability."

The producers of the film are reportedly trying to help the street children in Mumbai post the phenomenal success of their film to counter the allegations that they underpaid the slum children.

"Danny and Dev are keen to keep on giving back to the street kids, and have been talking to Railway Children about appearing on 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire?'

"Filming of the special depends on when both are available, as they are in huge demand following their Oscar success. But we hope it will happen later this year. To have Dev back in the Millionaire hot-seat would be brilliant, and would do a lot for the charity," a source told the newspaper.
