While the civic body has hiked the development charge, it said that there will be negligible impact on the sky rocketing property prices in the city.
The development charges are paid by the developer to the BMC against the infrastructure provided by the civic body such as water, drainage, road and streetlights and the charges are passed on to the customer who buys the property. However, the civic administration has maintained that it would not result in increased property prices.
“There will be 0.1 or 0.2 per cent impact which is minimal,”' said Additional Municipal Commissioner, Manu Kumar Srivastava.
He added that the hike was because the development charges were very low and had not been revised since 16 years. “The BMC recommended the state government for the revision of development charges as they have not been revised over the last 16 years,” he said.
The state government has approved the enhanced rates which will be applicable to the developers. The BMC's kitty is expected to double due to the 100 per cent rise in the development charges.
