Dharamvir, Amit hog limelight in HWC meet

Chandigarh, February 29 Dharamvir and Amit Kumar, both of Rewari, shone in athletic competitions on the opening day of the two-day 10th Annual Sports Meet of Haryana Warehousing Corporation at the Tau Devi Lal Sports Complex in Sector 3, here, today.

Dharamvir grabbed top honours by winning the 100 metres and 200 metres races in the track events and long jump in the field event. Dharamvir remained to the fore showing good performance and pushed Amit Kumar to second position and to emerge the fastest athlete of the meet by winning 100 metres dash. While Dharamvir clocked 13.48 seconds, Amit timed 13.50 seconds. Dharamvir completed a golden double by winning 200 metres. Dhirpal of Rohtak and Dilbag Singh of Kaithal bagged silver and bronze, respectively. Dharamvir also won bronze medal in the one-lap race and silver in 800 metres.

Dharamvir finished on top in the long jump event with a jump of 4.70 metes, while

Amit proved better in 400 and 800 metres races which he won smoothly. In 800 metres final, Amit clocked 2.31 seconds while silver medallist Dharamvir clocked 2:42 seconds.

Rewari dominated as Dilawar Singh got the better of Bodh Raj of Kurukshetra 21-16, 21-16 in the badminton singles final. Dharamvir of Rewari finished third beating Vivek of Hisar whom he beat 21-16, 21-18.

Hosts Panchkula dominated table tennis competitions. Panchkula paddlers emerged winners in the singles as well as doubles. In the singles final, CK Sood rallied to victory outplaying his colleague VK Chakravarty 9-11, 11-8, 11-8. Later Sood and Chakravarty partnered to down another Panchkula duo of RK Nayyar and Sandeep Gujaral.
