New Delhi, March 17 In a setback to the prosecution in the Dhaula Kuan gangrape case, a witness today turned hostile before a Delhi court by refuting the prosecution’s claims that the girl had informed him about being raped by four persons in a car.

“It is wrong to suggest that I told the police that the girl had informed that four persons abducted her in a Santrocar and raped her,” Gurlab Singh, a volunteer (sewadar) in Guruduwara Nanak Pura, said.

Singh claimed that a girl aged about 20-22 years had come to the Guruduwara on May 8, 2005 while crying and some persons had informed him that she has been raped.

In his statement before the police, recorded after the incident, Singh said the girl had come to the Guruduwara at about 4.30 am on the day and informed him that she had been raped by four persons after being abducted in a Santro car.

Recording his statement as the 22nd prosecution witness, Singh denied that the victim had told him about the rape.

On being cross-examined by Manoj Sharma, counsel for accused Ajit Katiyar, he reiterated that he had not spoken to the victim on the day of the incident.
