Sydney, February 24: Mahendra Singh Dhoni was asked to change his wicketkeeping gloves during his team's tri-series match against Australia on Sunday after pulling off a spectacular catch to dismiss Adam Gilchrist.

Former Australia wicketkeeper Ian Healy, commenting on local television, said the gloves were in breach of the rules because they had extra webbing between the thumb and the forefinger.

Under the sport's regulations, the webbing is not allowed to protude 'beyond the straight line joining the top of the index finger to the top of the thumb'.

Dhoni said he had agreed to change his gloves as soon as he was informed that the match referee wanted to inspect them.

"There was no point creating controversy so I said I'll change the gloves," he told a news conference.

Dhoni said he was unaware there was any problem with his gloves as he been using the same type all season.

"It's up to the match referee, I've been using them for quite some time," he said, "It's an exact replica of the ones I was using in the Test series so that's all I know about it."

What about the mad boy Symonds? by Jolly on 25 Feb 2008

To apply the rules and laws is fine. How about looking at the mentally retarded Symonds, who provokes people but gets away with no punishments? What rules are applied by ICC and what the heck is BCCI doing about this? Giving Symonds millions of dollars of Indian money? Grow up India!!

Gavaskar is at fault by Dileep on 26 Feb 2008

The decision is taken by the match referess. They are under the control of Gavaskar. However, Subcontinent referess like Vishwanath, Srinath or Pakistanis do not take serious action against Aussies. They are scared shit of losing their job/free money. Sri Lankans like Madugale have been persistsently anti-Indian during the last 10 years, and Madugalle is for all practical purposes, an Australian. He had NEVER punished any Australian against India. South Africans, English, and West Indians are "white" and people like Clive Lloyd loved to screw Indians. So India has nowhere to go! The pity is that Gavaskat knows about it all but has NEVER put a proper system of accountability for the referees in place in the last 10 years! He is afraid of losing his job, 'power' and money. Only when fellow Marathi Sachin's words were not taken in Sydney fiasco, he wrote some hot comments. That is simply the case of love for fellow marathi rather than for India, browns or the game!Of course, we Indians are too naive or stupid. We will always get shit from both sides!

How healy can measure the webbing sitting in commentary box. Looks like he has great eye (sarcastically). He can become an umpire rather than commentator then (again sarcastically)

Web between fingers by Dileep on 25 Feb 2008

It is not the size of the web. There cannot be ANY joining piece (web) between the fingers. Web is allowed only between thumb and first finger,. This can be easily seen on a close up shot.

Aussies by Indi on 25 Feb 2008

Aussies and monkeys licensed to cheat. Indians are penalised though they play fairly. Cheating, racism and monkeyism is is the birth right of aussies and aussies cricketers turned beggers of Indian money.
