Ranchi, March 4: Team India’s spectacular tri-series win over Australia sparked off celebrations in skipper M S Dhoni’s home town Ranchi with cricket fans taking the streets carrying photographs of Dhoni and Sachin Tendulkar.

“No doubt, for us the man of the moment is Mahi (Dhoni), but Sachin’s contribution in the victory is no less, as he scored 117 in the first of the finals and 91 today,” said a thrilled fan Saroj Kumar.

Dhoni’s former coaches, Deval Sahay and Chanchal Bhattacharya, are on cloud nine after their ward lifted the tri-series trophy.

“Dhoni’s devils vanquished the kangaroos in their own pouch,” said Bhattacharya while distributing sweets.

“I have no words to describe the happiest moments of Team India led by Dhoni. For me, it is doubly sweet as the Twenty20 World Cup win and the Tri-series win came under the leadership of Dhoni, and that too well within a span of one year,” Sahay said.

The 2-0 triumph in the best-of-three tri-series finals would put behind the bitter memories of India’s tour Down Under, added Bhattacharya.

Dhoni had on record praised Bhattacharya and Sahay for grooming him during his formative years. In fact, Bhattacharya was the person who pursuaded Dhoni to quit football and take up cricket.

Elsewhere in the city, cricket buffs broke into bhangra, smeared gulal on each other’s face and distributed sweets after India’s nail-biting nine-run win over Ricky Ponting’s team.
