Bhopal Terming the Team India as the best team of the Indian cricket, former captain and scion of the erstwhile ruling family of Bhopal, Nawab Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi said the team led by skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni is capable of winning the Test series in New Zealand.

"The team led by captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the best team in the history of Indian cricket and is capable of winning the test series in New Zealand," Pataudi who is popularly known as "Tiger Pataudi" told reporters in Bhopal of Saturday.

Pataudi along with his noted actress wife Sharmila Tagore and other family members arrived here for taking part in a private function and also to resolve the vexed property disputes.

To a question he said it would be better if the team members instead of playing for personal records, plays for the nation and in that case it would be difficult for any team to beat Dhoni's men.

However, he said the performance of the team was good and is appearing to get better.

On the issue of condition of hockey in the country, he said that politics was responsible for it and added that as long as political interference did not stop, the game will not be able to revive at the national level.

Pataudi said only players can improve the situation of hockey in the country by not coming under any pressure and keeping their morale high for better performance.

indian test team by vsankar on 17 Mar 2009

I am afraid whether Dhoni can get full cooperation from veterans like Dravid and Laxman.hey will have their own way of doing things which in no way helps the team whenever quick runs are needed for forcing a win.hey also mar the tempo of the game inspite of the bright starts given by the young openers.I wonder why the selectors are clinging to this men who had already outlived their utility to the team.It is hightime that these people gracefully retire from the game thereby giving opportunities to deserving youngsters.

As Mr. Patudi said indian politics are particulalry reponslible for the worst hockey senario and government should put an eye on it though govt. will not benefit from hockey as much as from cricket. Since it is a national game, leaders should consider this issue and make shine the hockey as previously it was..
