Islamabad, August 19: The celebrations marking Pervez Musharraf’s resignation as the President of Pakistan proved to be fatal for a man with diabetes, who ate too many sweets distributed by political party workers and lawyers.

Bashir Ahmad, a 65-year-old resident of Sambrial town in Punjab province, suffered a massive heart attack after his blood sugar levels shot up and died instantly.

Ahmad ate lots of sweets, distributed during impromptu celebrations to mark Musharraf’s resignation, the Dawn newspaper reported.

In most cities and towns across the country, workers of the ruling Pakistan People’s Party and its ally PML-N as well as lawyers distributed sweets among people on hearing Musharraf’s decision to step down in order to avert his impeachment by the government.

Political party workers went to traffic intersections and markets and handed out sweets to passers-by and people in buses and cars.
