Mumbai, February 5 Pratik Mehta (48), a diamond trader residing at Peddar Road, allegedly committed suicide by consuming some 'poisonous liquid' on Monday morning. According to the DB Marg police, Mehta, who works with a diamond trading company, was depressed since past few days because of which he took the extreme step.

“He was under depression and consumed some poisonous liquid. He was admitted to the Bhatia Hospital, where he succumbed to the effects of the poison. We do not know the precise reason why he committed suicide. He must be undergoing depression or was under tremendous stress. In our investigations we have found that Mehta called up his wife before consuming the liquid and had informed her about taking this step. As his wife is in a state of shock, we have not been able to question her to understand what might have transpired. We are waiting for the medical reports,” said Senior Police Inspector Nagappa Mali of the DB Marg police station.
