A down-tempo, trip-hop outfit, J Viewz came up six years ago — for fun and some experimentation with acoustic instruments in their studio, but it soon found itself established as a live act. “The group was not formed with any particular agenda,” says Jonathan Dagan, the guitarist who founded the five-member band and flew down for the concert last year as well. “It is hard to describe our music. We give a different interpretation to songs which are up-tempo.” He alternates between the turntables and the laptop, and has found some great stuff in Bollywood music. He says, “It’s the everyday life that drives our music and India has been a big influence. It can get into one’s system. My last visit led me to compose some delightful tunes.” But if you missed out on the Israeli version of Smooth Criminal, wait for their EP The Besides.
