The system has the capability to display and teach traditional lessons on the motions of night sky, constellations, seasons, moon phases, etc. One can “move away” from the earth and view the motions of the solar system from afar or “fly” outside the Milky Way galaxy and beyond up to several light years away from the Sun.
The system has been installed in the existing dome theatre, which has a sitting capacity of 325 persons, for projecting a 3-D colour night sky on full dome with digital surround system. The system comprises a fully integrated six-channel, high-resolution projection capability with 3-D computer graphic system.
The shows on astronomy have a Hindi and English narration. “We will screen shows such as new horizons, hide and seek in the sky, sky tonight, introductions to planets and constellations and microcosm in the same planetarium,” said director general, Science City, Dr R.S. Khandpur, while talking to The Indian Express today. He added that the digital system has great clarity as compared to other systems while projecting the shows.
Apart from this, a big dinosaur park is coming up, which will have more than 40 life-size dinosaurs of different eras. An earthquake gallery has also been established to educate people about quakes.
