New Delhi, March 14 Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today said her government would set up a directorate to address concerns of nurses in the Capital.

Speaking at a felicitation function organised by the Delhi Nurses Union at Lady Harding Medical College, Dikshit said the union government, in its budget, has set aside Rs 2,005 crore for improving nursing services in the country.

National Advisor of Nursing Service of Government of India Dillip Kumar said three major hospitals—Lady Harding Medical College, Dr Ram Manohar Lohia and Safdarjung Hospital—which run nursing schools have been upgraded. Seeking the government to open more nursing schools in North India, he said, “...it is a matter of great concern that most nursing schools are located in the southern region of the country.”

The Centre is planning to open more nursing schools in various parts of the country, she said.
