Kolkata, February 9 The disciplinary committee of the Presidency College will meet on February 13 to take a decision on the violence that took place on the campus on Friday.

SFI supporters had allegedly beaten up a few students putting up posters for a seminar organised by the Bengali literary magazine of the college.

Following the incident, the members of Independence Consolidation (IC), a student body, tried to put pressure on the authorities to take action against those involved.

On Saturday, students belonging to IC, assembled in front of Principal Sanjib Chandra Ghosh’s office at noon. After a couple of hours, the college authorities invited them for a discussion. In the evening, it was decided that the matter will be taken up by the disciplinary committee.

Students from both sides — SFI and IC — along with a few eyewitnesses will take part in the deliberations of the disciplinary committee.

The students also submitted a deputation to the principal asking him to enquire into the matter and bring the guilty to book. “We have named three students specifically in the deputation. They have also been mentioned in the FIR filed with the Joransanko police station yesterday,” said Avijit Sarkar, a second-year student.
