NOIDA, March 4 The district hospital in Noida will soon be converted into a multi-specialty hospital, Noida Authority officials said today. In tatters and lacking certain basic services, renovation work has already begun.

The budget for renovation of the district hospital has been placed at around Rs 150 crore.

Lack of funds, however, has forced the Authority to shelve its plans for the mega Medical City project. The Medical City, which had been planned on 10 lakh square metres in Sector-151, would have super specialty institutes and hospitals, along with specialised treatment centres.

The Greater Noida Authority had given its approval to the plan on December 10 last year. The move has been aimed at providing specialised treatment and various other facilities to the lower and middle income groups of the district.

According to the new plans, the hospital, which had 140 beds, will now have 300 beds. The plan has now been put in place and the process of acquisition of staff and other facilities has also been completed, officials said.

Nearly 100 state government employees working at the hospital have now been hired by the Noida Authority. Their salaries, to be paid by the Authority now, have been increased by 10 per cent and other facilities available to the regular employees of the Authority will also be provided to them, officials said.
