“Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav should have taken his MPs into confidence but he chose otherwise following which I boycotted today’s meeting in New Delhi,” Mohanlalganj MP Jai Prakash Rawat told reporters in Lucknow.
Claiming about 12 MPs, including some who attended Tuesday’s meeting, were also against the nuclear deal, Rawat said in case of trial of strength he would defy party whip.
“Though several MPs are in touch with each other over the issue I can speak for myself and I will defy the whip,” Rawat said.
Last week party MP from Muzaffarnagar Munawwar Hasan had come out openly against the deal and echoed similar views.
Stressing he would oppose the party decision within the organisation in a democratic manner, he said as of now he had no plans of quitting the party. He, however, did not rule out the possibility of revolt in the party over the issue.
“The party leadership should have convened a meeting of MPs and apprised them of the details,” he said.
Claiming more voices of dissent would emerge in the SP soon, he said as the nuclear deal is against national interest he would continue his opposition at every level.
“America is trying to sell its junk to India through this deal and SP general secretary Amar Singh had visited the USA before the finalisation of the deal with Congress and this raise certain doubts,” said Rawat, four-time MP from Hardoi and Mohanlalganj, had been in the Loktantrick Congress Party which had earlier merged with SP.

SP is supposed to be a partner in UNPA. If Mulayam had any principles and scruples, he should have discussed the issue with other partners of this coalition. He did not do it. Any party worth its salt should have intra party democracy. But Mulayam took a decision on his own even without consulting his party members. On a major issue like this, a party meeting should have been called and discuused the issue threadbare. He did not do it. He acted like a dictator. This is also the philosophy of congress. Party MPs are right in defying this dictator, who takes decisions for the party to safeguard his personal interests!
ALONG WITH THE PRETEXT OF GOOD N. DEAL,,,THIS IS THE IDEAL TIME GAP FOR SONIAJI, TO ACCOMMODATE AS MANY KINKY DEALS AS POSSIBLE.....CPM/CPI ARE OUT,SPIS IS NOT IN YET,,,,BJPA IS IN "COMA"/CHINTAN,,,,,AND THESE FEW DAYS ARE BEFORE THE POSSIBILITY OF BEING THROWN OUT....LET US DO SOME BOFORS TYPE KATKI DEALS,AFTER THAT EVEN IF UPA IS DEAD,THE CREAM WOULD BE THERE TO JUST,SLURP AWAY !!!!!BESIDES PRATIBHA WILL DO A GOOD JOB OF RIGGING ELECTIONS ANY WAY,THAT'S WHY SHE IS ORDERED TO TAKE PRESIDENTIAL SEAT IS N'T IT ????
At least some MPs of SP have priciples, and while others will do anything to grab power. Remember Amar said that Adwani is more dangerous than Bush?. It means that he considers Mr. Bush as dangerous. Amar visited U.S.A and now he is approving N-Deal Agreement forwarded by Mr. Bush team and is siding with with UPA/Congress? What Oxymoron SP is! why people trust these guys? they would be better off with BSP.
But probably, you forgot that FOUR elected secular MPs of Samajwadi Party are in jail for murder charges. Will they vote from jail? the top leader from Allahabad is Ateeq Ahmed with 100s of charges of murder, loot and snatching land from Aam Adami.
"...FOUR elected secular MPs of Samajwadi Party are in jail for murder charges. Will they vote from jail?..." Indian politicians are shameless and dishonourable. What to speak of looking for votes from murderers, looters and land-snatchers, they won't mind making a pact with the Devil to hold on to "kursi". Of course the reason given will be : "anything to keep the communal BJP out is kosher".
