In her first election rally in Delhi for the November 29 Assembly polls, she denounced politics over terrorism, saying terrorists have no religion except to spread terror.
She asked the voters to choose between Congress, "which takes all religions and sections of the society for peace and development" and "those who are not in support of development but play divisive politics and spread fear among different sections of the society". She, however, did not name anybody in this regard.
"Divisive politics is a major challenge before the country," Gandhi said at a well-attended rally in Mangolpuri in North West Delhi while asking the electorate of the capital to return Congress to power for the third time.
"It is the responsibility of each political party that terrorists should not be linked to any social group.
Terrorists are terrorists. They have only one religion – to spread terror in the society," the UPA Chairperson said.
"Those who create fear in the name of religion, caste or any other pretext, they may come to power for some days. But they cannot escape the responsibility of plunging the future of the country into darkness," she said.
Her comments assume significance as BJP has been attacking the Government over the arrest of some Hindu figures in connection with Malegaon blasts, alleging Hindus were being targeted deliberately in view of the elections.

Caste and Religious divisions have always been exploited by politicians. Recently, politics of regionalism was played in Maharashtra and PM and State govt. (both congress party) were mute spectator and participant while innocent people were lynched.Nations always live in hearts of men and women. Acts of divisive politics make people wonder whether they belong to this nation where they could be lynched because of region, religion or caste. Many suspected that Congress didn't intervene in Maharashtra because it could curtail Sena's power. Mr. Singh, PM, expressed his inablity to do anything. Mr. Advani, Opposition Leader, had nothing to say. These men have no vision of India which could compel them to either say consoling words or protect innocent citizens. It is then I realized that these men will as gladly scarifice me, a Bihari/HIndu as an innocent Muslim. My gut hurts now when I hear any BJP/Congress leader start talking about India as one nation as if they care.

Look back and see how Congress behaved with George Fernadez, though he constitutionally occupied a position as Defence Minister, Look back and see how Congress supported the Jata and their blckade in Rajstan, Look back and see how congress could not say a word when Tamil Nadu declared blockade of trainsa amd triucks tp Kerala over the Selam Divisin, Look back and see how the Prime MInster found no time to discuss national issues with the Opposition leader Advani, while he had time for any number of breakfast and tea with Karat and CoEven now, has Sonia dn Congress got the courage to call for meetings, one to one with L.K.Advant to discuss the problem that India is facing and how to rectify it?

The BJP has been fooling the public for a long time by raising Hindu instrument. Whenever there was a terrorist attack they blamed the government for noting action against terrorists. Now they are offering flowers to the terrorists and fully supporting Sadhvi and Purohit. It means that they are not against terrorists but against certain community and in the name of one religion they want to earn good name by attacking the other. However the government has taken a right step and now the BJP which is the main opposition party has no right to question the government stand on terrorism. The people should decide whether they support terrorist to form government. Very odd statement!All that BJP said about the sadhvi was that let the investigations go on and then you bring her to court. Let the law decide. They did not ask any one to be set free- as per my (mis)understanding.Re Purohit, more than BJP, the Defence institutions have complained that the ATS running commentary has damaged the great regard Indian Defence has had because of one individual. As per ATS, even some RSS leaders were to be killed because they are soft on BJP.which all means ATS should have waited for the investigations to be properly done and then come out with the case. However, here what we talk about is terrorism against India, not a community. And it is very odd on your part to call the opposition leader a terrorist - are you by any chance working as secretary to Lalu?
