Khan was in news a week ago when he was presented by defense counsels of Vikas and Vishal Yadav who are being investigated for the murder of Nitish Katara. Their lawyers had produced Khan in court to discredit the officer investigating the Yadavs, Anil Somania, after another sting operation by Khan “exposed” that Somania was ready to kill a criminal in a fake encounter.
Jamshed Khan is employed by the Dedicated Investigators Guild (DIG), an independent news agency, and the sting was telecast by the channel CNN-IBN between July 29 to August 3 last year.
In this particular episode, Khan caught Ghaziabad doctor Ajay Aggarwal on camera, and the footage allegedly implied that Aggarwal would cut off limbs for money. Dr Aggarwal was an orthopaedic surgeon in Noida’s District Hospital at that time.
Following the telecast, Dr Aggarwal faced three inquiries — by the High Court, the Medical Council of India and the third by the state Government. “They found nothing against me,” Dr Aggarwal told Newsline. He said the police lodged an FIR against him after the state Government inquiry could not ferret out “convincing evidence” to link malpractices to the doctor. “I believe the reporter was used by another doctor to tarnish my image. That particular footage was shot when I was advising a patient who had come for a knee replacement surgery,” he said.
The doctor has now trained his guns on Jamshed Khan. In an FIR, he has claimed Dr Vinod Kumar, who was the then chief medical superintendent of the same Noida hospital, colluded with Khan and tampered the footage. His FIR names Kumar as the first accused and Khan as the second.
Police officers were guarded in their opinion. Circle Officer Satish Chand said, “We are investigating the case and an FIR has been lodged. I cannot divulge any more details at the moment.”
Editor-in-Chief of CNN-IBN Rajdeep Sardesai told Newsline: “Our channel telecast the sting but it was carried out by DIG, a group of professional investigators. We have evidence to support our case and Jamshed Khan has a long record as an investigative reporter.”
Meanwhile, Amitabh Thakur of DIG, said, “The three inquiry committees whom Aggarwal faced did not take raw footage of the episode from us. Our reporters were also not questioned. We stand by our sting and are not shy of any investigation.”
While the Ghaziabad Police are looking into the matter, their findings are now of prime importance to the Nitish Katara case because Khan’s earlier sting had cast doubts on the integrity of the investigating officer.
