Kolkata, May 17 Shakespeare Sarani police station on Saturday lodged a complaint against the doctors of a private nursing home for allegedly removing the kidney of a six-month-old while operating for a tumor.

“Upen Sahu, father of the child, Aditya Sahu, has lodged a complaint with us against the nursing home authorities. We have started an investigation,” said Dulal Das Officer-in-Charge of Shakespear Sarani police station.

According to the complaint, Aditya was born on November 5, 2007. After the birth, he developed urinary problems and was admitted to a nursing home in Shakespeare Sarani on December 29. The

doctors opined that he had a tumor in his stomach and required immediate surgery. The next day the child was operated.

“However, after being discharged he developed problems which gradually turned critical. As his condition deteriorated we took him to a hospital in Mumbai last month. After ultrasonography, the doctors found that his left kidney was missing,” said Upen.

“No body from the nursing home told us that his kidney will be operated. Even after the operation no body told us that they have removed his kidney,” he added.

After receiving the complaint, a police team visited the nursing home and spoke to the authorities. No arrests have been made.
