New Delhi, May 19: ICC appeared surprised at film star Shah Rukh Khan's statement that its anti-corruption unit had asked him not to be with the team on the playing field, saying that the IPL tournament was being played under BCCI's rules and regulations.

The ICC said the IPL was a domestic tournament and the game's governing body did not have any role in formulating the rules.

"The reported incident has nothing to do with the ICC as IPL is a domestic tournament which is being held under the Rules and Regulations of the BCCI," an ICC spokesman said from Dubai.

"Furthermore, the ICC Board in its meeting held in Dubai on 17-18 March had decided that IPL will introduce a code of conduct, an anti-corruption code and an anti-doping code that complies with ICC regulations," he said.

Bollywood superstar and Kolkata Knight Riders owner Shah Rukh Khan expressed disappointment on Sunday night, claiming he had been barred by the ICC anti-corruption unit from going to the team dug out and dressing room in the remaining IPL matches.

"I like to hang around with the boys. I am very energetic. I am very disappointed that the ICC has stopped me," he said.

"I don't know the ICC rules. I'll tell only one thing. Nobody dare stop me from coming to Kolkata. I'll be here whenever my team plays a match at the Eden," Khan said.

Asked whether Shah Rukh needed an accreditation for the IPL matches, the ICC spokesman said, "Everybody needs an accreditation and these are in line with anti-corruption code.

BCCI is following anti-corruption code. Now I don't know what modifications they have made to the code."

Knight Riders CEO Joy Bhattacharya played down the event and said Shah Rukh was actually stopped by security personnel for not carrying a visitors' pass.

"Look there is nothing like that. It was a gentleman from the security who stopped Shah Rukh Khan. He said Shah Rukh didn't have a valid visitor's pass...I don't think there is any controversy or issue," he said. He said the ICC rules were to make sure that bookies didn't enter the dressing room.

"When these rules were framed, the concept of franchisee owners' domestic tournament didn't even come, the law was not framed to stop people like Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta, Mukesh Ambani or Vijay Mallya from walking into the dressing room," he said.

"According to even ICC regulations, there is a system of visitor's pass, the manager and team management sign it. The person can be allowed in the dressing room as long as it is signed by. So there is no way to stop Shah Rukh from entering the dressing room," Bhattacharya added.

He owns the team, not ICC! by Ramu on 19 May 2008

He may own the Kolkatta team but he does not own the ICC or BCCI! He is still bound by the rules, however rich he may be! What is this talk about challenging ICC to stop him from coming to Kolkatta?! ICC never said anything like that. This guy must be a lunatic and must be admitted to a mental hospital before it is too late!

Throw him out! by Jolly on 19 May 2008

People like him, Harbi and Sreesanth bring bad name to cricket and India. It is for BCCI to act tough ONCE again, as they did in the 'Slapgate' episode and put this guy under a leash. Many of the overpaid, under-performing Indians tend to behave like brutes, and SRK is no exception. I pity his lack of education and proper upbringing!

Who is this idiot? by Dilip on 19 May 2008

SRK is no cricketer. He has no business in the players area if the rules do not permit him. Can he go to the army and ask them to allow him into the secret areas, just beacuse he is an overrated, overpaid, uneducated goonda? Once Mr. Henry Ford, the owner of the Ford company was refused entry to his own Factory, by a Guard, since he did not carry an ID. Mr. Ford appreciated this and later rewarded the guy for his sense of duty! But then, we are talking about goondas here, aren't we? Education is VERY important; especilly when you have obscene amount of money!

Now this stupid guy! by Joy on 19 May 2008

We have just come out of one embarrassment called 'Harbi-Sreesanth'and now this. This uneducated, overpaid, 'juglee' thinks he is really a 'badsha'. Nobody is stopping him from going to Kolkattta! What is this nonsense of threatening ICC on this non-issue! Until he opened his mouth, people only suspected that he was an idiot; now by opening it, he had confirmed it!!India perhaps deserves this and more! All foreigners are laughing at India!. Just beacuse he has some money, he should not expect the whole world to salute him. There are lot more richer and sophisticated Indians out there, who bring respect to India! People like Harbi, Sreesanth and SRK make India look silly! Good work India, for promoting uneducated brutes!

Bussiness man should not be allowed by Shankar on 19 May 2008

During the auction time the same SRK said that he is doing business with the sport called Cricket. It is a good decission that he was not allowed without a pass. He was creating a mess from his filime friends insted of watching the game. Also it will be better to show him a chair and should be seated untill the matches over. We have seen Preethi who is maintaining distance untill the match and also after the match. SRK learn lesson From her.

Cut out this cockyness by DILIP/FRANCE on 19 May 2008

THis goonda is huffing and puffing as if he owns India, from specificially Kolkata.Does this YOB think he is above the Law? He is just an uneducated, overated bling bling star, who happened to amass wealth, from the back of hindu/sikh generosity. He must be told in no uncertain terms, the sun does not shine from the proverbial,he is living in India and better conform to the rules and regulations of India and ICC., otherwise Badsha Khan will become Pasha Ali Baba khan, behave yourself and stop acting so arrogantly, you are only a overrated, over paid blin bling.False vanity and pumped up ego will be mappimg fleabite. You do not own India nor Kolkata.

SRK by Jetha on 19 May 2008

I think Dilip's (France) reponse is spot on, SRK is too cocky and he needs to be aware of it, money cannot buy all.

Applaud the guard by Sridhar on 19 May 2008

Whatever has happened to SRK, one must be proud and applaud the guard who stopped him for not having Visitor's ID Pass. This reminds me of an incident which happened during our first Prime Minister Mr. Nehru's time. His cavalcade was stopped by dutiful railway level Crossing because a train was die to pass. While his ADCs, chamchas and others were scolding the guard, Mr. Nehru is reported to have praised the guard and thanked him for saving his life. I think this guard must be rewarded for his exemplary sense of duty.
