"Don't look at any politician as God. Never ever become a worshipper (to any politician). Politics will improve only when you will understand that politicians are your servant," Gandhi said.
Her remark came after a woman at her election meeting shouted from the crowd, "Soniaji is God to us".
Priyanka reciprocated instantly, saying, "You are God, we are devout and servants. People should never become devout of any politician," she said.
Priyanka was at her interactive best asking people a number of questions directly on why they should vote for Sonia Gandhi.
Earlier, she directly held talks with the masses instead of addressing them from the podium at Simrapaha, Udawamau, Behatakala and Lalganj under Rae Bareli Lok Sabha constituency. She told people it was their responsibility to make the politician realise that they want development.
Exhorting people of the constituency to set an example for the rest of the country, Priyanka said, "The entire country looks at Rai Bareli and Amethi. The way you brought about change by continuing to vote for development will show the path to the entire country."
She also touched upon the earlier controversy between the Uttar Pradesh Government and the Centre over the issue of Rail Coach Factory at Lalganj which falls in Sareni assembly segment of the Rae Bareli parliamentary seat where she addressed all the meetings on Thursday.
"Rail factory will give employment to at least 10,000 people. You remember how much Soniaji struggled when the state government was not giving land...during the controversy she (Sonia) had said she would even go to jail for it. Only then the factory started," she said.
Claiming that a number of development works were carried out during the tenure of Sonia Gandhi as their MP, she said "Soniaji has sent me here on her behalf. I am her daughter. I know her. Give five years more to Soniaji. I have come to assure you that Soniaji will never disappoint you. She will work till her last breath for the development of the region," she said.
Addressing another meeting in Usaru village, Priyanka also invoked the name of her grandmother and former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

What is she speaking about? Here we do not elect our representatives. We are not concerned about our development. We hardly need a government. What we need are more and more gods, more and more holidays to worship them and more and more public time to please them. Priyanka will come and Priyanka will go but our servitude to our elected kings and the those gods they represent will remain forever.

Priyanka's statement shows how much she is OUT OF TOUCH with regular people of India. If our Politicians are Servants, then how come they - have Z-Category security wherever they go, have crores of rupees in their banks, have properties that they themselves cannot keep track of, have access to all the luxeries like spending summers in foreign countries or Air-Conditioned homes etc. Other Public Servants who work their butts off in rural areas their entire life will be ashamed of this. Our present day politicians are not Public Servants but Pirates-in-white-suits. They do not know what "Public Service" is. Priyanka comes into public only during elections begging votes for her MOM and fooling public with her grandmother's face and Rajiv's name. Other than this she has nothing to do with regular public outside Amethi. Cong. leaders should be ashamed of themselves, as ordinary workers who actually works for party do not get importance but for someone who appears during election time only
IN THEORY THAT IS A FACT. BUT IN REALITY, SONIA GANDHI GETS A HOUSE IN NEW DELHI. PRIYANKA'S IN-LAWS GET SECURITY COVER. MPs ARE ABLE CHANGE THE SCHEDULES OF TRAINS AND PLANES. THEY ARE EVEN ABLE TO FORCE THE TRAIN TO COME TO A PARTICULAR PLATFORM. EVEN THE DISTANT RELATIVES OF THE POLITICIANS WHO ARE IN OFFICE ARE ABLE TO USE THEIR NAME AND GET THINGS DONE. WHEN WE SEE OBAMA WHEELING HIS LUGGAGE WE REALIZE THAT REAL DEMOCRACY IS TOO FAR AWAY FROM INDIA AND THE POLITICIANS, EVEN NON-ELECTED ONES, ARE GODS. THE PROOF IS WHEN PEOPLE GO AND FALL AT THE FEET OF THESE DEMI-GODS.
She is on the right track with the right attitude revealing in full measure her Great Grand Father's empathy and feeling for the common people. Simple and without airs, it is only a matter of time, people will take her to their hearts.A leader of the masses, who would inter act, mingle and attend to their woes couldn't arrive any sooner. oh really....priyanka...can be a great leader who enjoys vip luxury and high security on public expenses...while our govt. is least intrstd in providing army with choppers to fight naxalites she enjoys travelling by helicopters when she z neither an MP, MLA nor a member of rajya sabha or a minister. she z nt even a govt. employee. u r right... she is on the right track as she is following her family tradition of robbin poor indians.
We are good at pointing fingers and blaming the poloticians for many things. But, we forget how much good some politicians have done for the country. In a diversed country like India, it is not easy to govern democratically as, every other group has their own interests first. Let us ask ourselves how much we care for our country sincerely, and what we are doing for it ? If we take some selfless interest in doing something beneficial from the grassroot, be vigilent, united and vote for the person whois best suited for the office, things might get changed. And, try to organise and voice loudly in a united forum fromany level against the CORRUPTION, which is the biggest problem at all the levels, you will be looking at a better India. Let us think about that, and do something constructive.
Public is real god, and politicians the servants. No wonder public (the gods!) are out on the street with little food to eat, shelter, and clothes to wear - while the servants (politicians!) are enjoying a 5 star life at the public's expense!What kind of "servants" are these politicians who have made the "gods" live on the streets???

Now Priyanka proves she is a real politician! If politicians are servants of public, why do they receive perks per day an amount which much more than a poor man's annual income? Why politicians have office an other infrastructure when he cannot go his/her constituency once a week and ask for the grievances of public? Priyanks is fit to write dialogues for Masala Hindi movies......
Such redundant advice and that too from a political nobody. Every Indian knows that politicians are anything but gods and saints - they are nothing but demons in human form bringing a bad name to mankind.
Great advice! Lets make a start with the Gandhi family in whoes service the nation has been in for over 60 years! And now a bunch of ignorant fools look at a dim-wit parrot as a prospective PM! At least we won't have to suffer that disaster if people seriously follow your advice.

Priyanka has conducted herself with dignity in public, unlike most children of politicians. I would nevertheless request you to stop your report-a-day from Amethi-Rae Bareli, where she campaigns for her family members. Your readers are interested in the other 541 constituencies and their local issues also, and your coverage there is lacking. I hardly read any such reports in your paper. Wish the press was more responsible. As the Prime Minister said recently, his statement at Bombay was all about development, but the press only highlighted his remarks on Advani. Please take your role more seriously.
