Mumbai, October 28: Faced with a mixed response for writing his blog in Hindi, megastar Amitabh Bachchan has said that he would not hesitated to express his sentiments in his mother tongue.

"If I have an opportunity to express some of my sentiments in my Mother tongue, I shall not hesitate to do so, whether there is someone to read it or not. I have always maintained a balance in my life and in my conduct. I shall continue with that," Bachchan wrote on his blog.

"If there is thought in English that needs to be put in Hindi I shall endeavor to do that and vice-versa. The English language too is a great absorber of other tongues within its European ambiance," Big B said.

"We must never disrespect the mother tongue of another, nor its belief or its importance, he wrote on his blog. There is some consternation among a few of you about the writings in Hindi. They want a translation or some threaten to leave the post altogether," Bachchan said.

"While some readers have great amount of gratefulness and support for my foray in Hindi. It has also come from quarters that do not know the language or are no familiar with it. This is generous and kind," the Bollywood icon has observed.

"There will be replication, of course in order to maintain a sense of fairness. Content will remain the same both ways. I hope that this shall put to rest all discussion, debate and apprehension on the issue," Bachchan wrote

"What has been expressed in Hindi is a recap of what has appeared in English, so readers are not missing anything special that may have been expressed in another language," Bachchan wrote.

Bachchan said he has never put any pressure ever on anyone to visit his blog.

"All of you came on voluntarily. I have enjoyed your presence, your accolades, your abuse and your criticism in a fair democratic manner. If your desire is to leave this facility, I really am no one to stop you," he said.

"Some of you notice aggression in my temperament. No this is a wrong observation. It is an honest desire to express what any would have were they to be confronted with similar circumstance," he said.

"The desire is not to push Hindi down anyone’s throat. It is but a compliance of a desire expressed by some readers. If I am conversant with the language and there are those among you that wish for me to express in Hindi, all I am saying is it shall be one. Not at the cost of losing the spirit of the blog, but as an added attraction, hopefully," he said.

EXPOSE MISDEEDS OF CONGRESS PARTY !!!!! by Sam on 29 Oct 2008

Cultures that are vibrant and open to new ideas will survive no matter what influence its exposed to. On the contrary, any culture that is insular and tries to impose itself on others and prove its superiority through force will die. If Raj Thackrey is so concerned about Marathi identity and language, he should atleast start educating his children in Marathi medium to qualify as a defender of Marathi pride. Till that happens, he will remain a self-serving politician in the eys of the people outside Maharashtra.WHY IS THE MEDIA NOT SCRUTINISING THE ROLE OF CONGRESS PARTY IN THE DEVELOPMENTS IN MAHARASHTRA? WHY IS RAJ PROTECTED BY THE STATE GOVERNMENT AND HOW DARE THE HOME MINISTER OF THE STATE ANNOUNCE A 'BULLET-FOR-A-BULLET' POLICY? CONGRESS HAS HARMED THE COUNTRY IMMENSELY IN THE LAST 60 YEARS AND ALL THEIR MISDEEDS OVER THE DECADES SHOULD BE EXPOSED, STARTING WITH THEIR SUPPORT TO RAJ THACKREY IN MAHARASHTRA. WILL THE 'SECULAR' MEDIA TAKE NOTICE AND EXPOSE THE CONGRESS PARTY?

All Indian languages must be respected as Bachan expouses by S.Balakrishnan on 28 Oct 2008

Bachan must and has a clear right to use Hindi which is his mother tongue to express his opinion. No one objects to that. But when Hindi speaking people come to Tamil Nadu and want to speak in Hindi only despite knowing English or when people move to Bombay to work and refuse to learn the local language it hurts the people of these regions. All languages in India areimportant. It should be our aim to help develop all the languages. There are some languages like Tulu and now Sindhi (in India there is no state that speaks that language officially) that have no state but the people who speak these languages must be respected and allowed to express themselves in that language with all freedom. Bachan is right in telling that all languages must be respected. When Subramanya Bharathi sang gloriously for Indian independance he also sang in praise of Tamil and Tamil Nadu. All Tamils want this freedom and want this freedom for other people also in India.

Interference.. by Ameer on 28 Oct 2008

We wish Bachans interference in the major issue like communilism. Hindu -Muslim should be live very peacefully. Pls concentrate on that area. Good luck!

disrespect to mother tongue by p. ganesan on 28 Oct 2008

Dear Bachen Sahib. You are a big star from Bollywood. Where was your conscious when PADOSAN film was shot. Purely disrespecting Tamil Brahmin and imitating Tamil language and also the great Carnatic Music. Kishore kumar is a great singer but he should not made fun of SOUTH INDIAN culture and music in PADOSAN. People living other than SOUTH INDIA making fun of this song even today. What is the answer to this SIR.

dont disrespect others mother toungue by chandrakant on 28 Oct 2008

Sir, fair enough. one should reslpect ones mother tongue. But see what is happening in Karnataka. Here we have no raj or bal thackerays. the vatal and karave protests will be in self interest and not in the larger interest of the language. the visitors/ and settled people outnumber kannda speaking people in bengaluru. In few years, we will reach a stage when u need to hijack people to attend rajyotsava ceremonies. Local people should feel proud to use their language/mothertongue.

North Indians are the people who should read this Bachan comments thoroughly.

Indians - North/South/East/West? by Aditya Singh on 29 Oct 2008

In North India ( which you perceive) there is nothing such as north, west east, south, we say names of places, Mumbai, Goa, Shillong, West Bengal, its only In Mumbai that now I have come to know, North India as a distinct Identity, Have you ever heard the word, West India ...if you have ever been to North, today you fight because Raj talks about your priorities, yesterday Hindus Fought because, BJP talked about their priorities, SC unite under Mayawati because she talks about them, the more finer distinction you do its easier to divide people, wait for tomorrow when some Koli politician ( we don’t have leaders) comes up in Mumbai and says they Marathi’s from Konkan are coming to Mumbai and taking their opportunities, they will fight their Marathi brothers...Are our parents not teaching us the right values while we grow up to save us from such hatred?

North Indians by geenalas on 29 Oct 2008

Has Hindi become objectionable to some? by john jacobs on 28 Oct 2008

It is puzzling why Mr Bachchan felt it necessary to defend himself for writing in his own mother tongue, in his own blog and to boot it, in the national language of India. The objectors deserved no answer, let alone a reply couched in an apologetic vein.

National language?? by Y on 28 Oct 2008

Hindi is just another national language. It is not THE national language. Amitabh Bachchan is free to write / speak in any language of any choice. But, what about his wife? Is she giving respect to other languages?
