"I am not opposed to Hindi but do not force Hindi on us," he told party workers at a function organised to celebrate the fourth foundation day of his party.
The Supreme Court had yesterday asked him not to make provocative speeches targeting north Indians which has led to several criminal cases being lodged against him in different parts of the country.
Mumbai's water woes would aggravate due to the hordes of migrants coming here, Raj said, asking party workers to thrash those indulging in water theft by breaching pipeline supplying water to Mumbai.
The MNS chief asked party workers to ensure that announcements were made in Marathi at railway stations and airports.
Noting that MNS totally supported the women's reservation bill, Raj ridiculed the bill's opponents Lalu Prasad and Mulayam Singh Yadav, saying their opposition "shows what kind of culture they have".
Raj raps Airtel for not using Marathi
MNS chief Raj Thackeray asked party workers to remove the `tail' from mobile service provider Airtel for failing to launch announcements in Marathi.
Soon afterward, a section of media reported that taking a cue, alleged MNS workers attacked the company's showroom in neighbouring Thane. However, police said no such attack took place.
Expressing displeasure with the company for not launching interactive voice response (IVR) in Marathi, citing technical reasons, Raj said that the deadline for technical reasons as an excuse to delay launch of IVR in Marathi was over.
"Now, you (MNS activists) should remove the tail from Airtel," Raj had said, addressing the fourth Foundation Day function of his outfit, at Yashwant Natyagruha in Matunga.
"Vodafone has started IVR in Marathi but Airtel is citing technical problems," Raj said.
Meanwhile, MNS sources said a mobile service provider has sent a letter to Raj Thackeray, saying the company would launch IVR in Marathi.

Raj says you should speak Marathi when you are in Mahrashtra, but he also says that when Marathi person goes out for Job/Business, he should learn language of that state and follow their culture, however this is never highlighted by media. Tell me one thing, will people in North India allow Marathi forced on them, they will never, so why do the same here. The people coming to Maharashtra should be courteous enough to learn the language and culture of this state where they are earning their livelihood.Raj knows language is part of culture of each and every state and a person should carry pride in using the language of state where he lives, it does not matter whichever part of the world you come from.
Why then Raj is forcing Marathi in Mumbai? he must respect the national language first and then Marathi in the region. he has to be fair.
dont compare hindi with marathi! hindi is not the national language of india, but the official language of the union.
Raj and for that matter all Thackerys (except Samita) are playing divisive part and still they call themselves "Patriot". They are trying to create a wedge between people of India in the same way as Britishers did. Pity is that all the politicians of india including Congress, BJP, SSP, RJD have tried to divide. Dear PM please take action to ensure that political parties do not divide India for one or the other reason. Be Abraham Lincoln of India and if India goes for civil war for the sake of justice and equity let it be that.
Marathis are late in realising that Hindi is against their language and culture! Late is better than Never! As some one said, no one is against Hindi, but no one is ready to accept Hindi by force either. First of all lies, that Hindi is THE national language, has to be stopped. It is well orchestrated and articulated lie sowed over decades. And then teach those people that they have to respect other languages in India and its culture. Give respect and Take respect! Simple.
I fully agree that there is a limit of infrastructure to support people in Mumbai. In such scenario why not So called Marathi Manush Mr Raj Thakeray, think to inprove the infrastructure of Mumbai, to uplift the life of the people living in Slums in Mumbai. Why not he uses his infulence to train the local population below poverty line to do some small business to have better living. Rather than pointing the guns for all the problems in Mumbai to North Indian, Mr. Marathi Manus should introspect himself, this is not the way of Politics, you may win some seats in Maharshtra but you can't come to the Central Stage which is called as Union of India. And Do you know the Nuclear Reactor and Power Plans running on Uranium and Coal are Produced in North India.
Raj opposition is correct and even people in TamilNadu , Karnataka, Kerala, Karnataka, Assam ,Tripura etc oppose forcing Hindi on there people. North indians should first teach there sons and daughter to read and wright in hindi, since in all northern states literacy level is below 50%. Before north indians claim that Hindi is national language let me say India is a Union and has no national language. All 23 languages are India's official language and official language of Union government for communication with state's is English or Hindi. Even the Gujarat high court rejected a hindi guys appeal that hindi is national language, it gave a judgment saying India does not have any national language . Hindi is a regional language of north india or cow belt. If north indians want to turn india into a hindi nation or hindia or hindi empire then rest of the ethnic groups are ready to declare independence and fight for it. Urdu imposition on east pakistan led to bangladesh
DO NOT WASTE TIME IN FIGHTING FOR NOTHING BUT START SOME RESEARCH/PROJECT TO SAVE MUMBAI FROM SUBMERGING IN WATER SOONER OR LATER, EVERYTHING WILL BE LOST AND MARATHI WILL HAVE NO OTHER PLACE THAN BIHAR AND U.P. TO LIVE IN.
Raj sir, iam sorry but i disagree with ur point of forcing any1 to learn hindi. I HOPE you know very well from where and how hindi originates?? I don't think language is all, there r many other problems INDIA is facing today, rather i say common People of india faces daily. if v try 2 rectify them...it'll b a great thing for our NATION. LAnguage is just for conversation, getting the thoughts, ideas of other human beings. first word which i had learnt was maa it's same in all language. DISCRIMINATION according to language is not the need of hour. just think once about INDIA after our generation. will it stand tall or PERISH. HOPE it stand as it standing after so many jolts from past. JAI HIND.
I think we are sort of looking back at ourself. As we grow more and more prosperous (only in terms of the total economy!!)the divide among us gets accentuated. We were done by that some time in the past leading to us being enslaved for almost 3 centuries if not more. It seems we are slowly but surely moving once again in that direction when we had small kingdoms or even smaller fiefdoms and no big unity making us an easy target for any foreign power!
Raj Thackeray is right in saying that Mumbai cannot take more influx even though political leaders who are interested only in votes say that Mumbai belongs to all.Let the supporters of influx seriously study the infrastructure that is available at present and give their honest opinion whether Mumbai can take more people. The Chief Minister of Maharashtra should publish in the news papers as what infrastructure he has created in Mumbai for more persons to come.
I think saying this that not to impose Hindi on anybody is a totally wrong. They should not forget that Hindi is the closest form of language to Sanskrit that made Marathi. Then when he can force Marathi on North Indians for living in a part of India, they should not forget that they live in the area of the nation of India and are a part of that nation with it's national Language HINDI, and the Marathi is likely to be a little bit of a dialect of Hindi. And at all, both are born by Sanskrit. India is one and in case they want a different part of India, give back the things they got from the Nation of India.
Marathi evolved from Prakrit and was different from Sanskrit. No Language should be forced, in China Mandarin has decimated all other languages and Chinese will never be even close to being proficient in English. Their loss is our gain.
Marathis should be slapped if they speak Marathi outside India.
Try to do this we want to see your guts you useless north Indians you will earn and live in Maharashtra and slap Maharashtrians. This is what your agenda is so Raj Saheb is doing the right thing and whole Maharshtra is with him so keep on barking Jai Hind Jai Maharashtra
Please mind your language . Mother tongue is the one of the strongest connecting thread between the people ..and the there is sayong in " when you are in Rome , be roman " nothing wrong in speaking local language
In that case, India is the superset and Mumbai is the sub-set of Maharashtra which itself is a sub-set of India. Be an Indian in India, man!
Bombay must be declared Union Territory before situation goes out of control and it becomes anothter kashmir. Marathis should be deported from foreign countries. Raj Thackeray is Bhinderawala in the making and should be eliminated as soon as possible. UP and Bihar has so many criminals. What the heck they are doing because government of india is impotent and can't protect Indians ?
Priya Ji agree with you .Only concern is that all the amenities like water, electricity and what not comes from Maharashtra at the expense if people living in rural parts .. Think of it .
Hey Raj, While I was growing up, maghai not Hindi is my mother tongue. I have to add that my neighbours found difficulty to learn Hindi but I had no difficulty to learn their mother tonge, oriya or telugu. These days, I prefer watching telugu movies more than hindi. Also, I do watch tamil movies even though I understand very few words. I enjoy them as some of their movie have new concepts. Now those F's who say that Hindi or other language is imposed on them are talking rubbish to gain political mileage. I have one query, why do Tamilians migrate from Tamil Nadu to other part of India or world for better opportunities. These politicians are able to divide us because we are accepting their views. Blame yourself for the rise of divide in Indian. This reminds me of two monkeys fighting for a loaf of bread; the cat intervene between two and eats the whole bread piece by piece. Hey Indian wake up to those who divide India based on religion/region/language/cast.

Raj what has happend is you like your unle has limited youself to Regional Politics, you have better talent which you can use for the country, talk like Tilak and savarkar they spoke of akhand bharath and not just mumbai, Even Chatrapathi Maharaj spoke of swarajya , why do you look up to such small issue which has no relavance in this educated world, let me ask you raj have your kid acknowledge your idea where is she studying? Why did you not send her to marathi medium school?
Alas! At least now Maharashtra awakes the forceful implementation of Hindi and may be now they will realise the reason for agitation for implementation of hindi in Tamil Nadu. it is best to implement two language formula in maharashtra.
If there any law in the Indian constitution to arrest, prosecute and convict anyone creating sectarian violence? If there is such a law,the first person to be arrested is Raj Thackeray. He is a manace to the nation.. Any politician associated with him and his followers must also be punished for instigating the illeterate citizens for creating violence, killing and what else.Maybe the media can just ignore him, when he is trying to get attention. Useless fanatics made india a country of nomads..
