"The issue is that the nation and the people should oppose terrorism. If any of our people are involved in whatever happened in Mumbai and it comes out in the open, we should not hide it," he told reporters in Islamabad.
"We can't deceive the world. We should openly oppose terrorism and extremism," Musharraf said while replying to a question on whether the Pakistan government was acting under pressure from the world community after the Mumbai incident.
"Pakistan is not a weak country, it is a nuclear and missile power. No one should have the mistaken impression that Pakistan is weak," he said.
Islamabad last week said it had taken into custody six Pakistani nationals for their involvement in the Mumbai attacks and acknowledged that part of the conspiracy behind the incident was hatched on Pakistani soil.
In a lighter vein, Musharraf indicated that he would continue to be a "tough guy" in dealing with India when he visited the neighbouring country next month to participate in the India Today conclave.
Asked by a reporter if he would continue his "tough guy" approach towards India, Musharraf laughed and replied, "I never believe in weakness I always speak frankly."
Musharraf said he would be the keynote speaker at the India Today conclave, which he described as "a very prestigious get-together" of intellectuals.
Asked if he planned to return to politics, Musharraf replied: "I am not doing that."
Musharraf resigned as President in August last year to avoid impeachment by the Pakistan People's Party-led government. He has maintained a low profile since then.

Since India today has changed the hands, they are converting fast in pscudo-seculars media. Calling Mushiboy to India is a Sin and India today is committing it! Mushiboy will collect milege and GOI will spend money to protect the jerk!
How cheap India and Indians are is seen in the invitation extended to two-faced Musharraf who has harmed India. What is more amazing is that the Indian Govy. has not directed that the invitation should be withdrawn. It is no wonder the Indian Govt. is seen by the world as spineless and lacking in self-respect.
The strength of Pakistan has already been sized up and defeated in Swat, so the generalismo would do well to hold his peace. Musharraf is slowly being seen as a mad buffoon not to be taken seriously. The man believes that possessing nuclear bombs makes his country strong and others will cringe in fear. He fails to see beyond his soldierly nose that military might is not the only element that determines the strength of a nation. Maybe thats why his country has never developed in any other area. I dont think he is suitable enough to lecture academics around the world but maybe he would fit better among our bollywood fraternity as he excels in dramatics.
Mush preparing for the India trip. He should take a class on Public Relations instead. Smart chap.
You should have no business in our country. I urge India today to cancel his invitation. He says if it is open then do not hide, so the underlying meaning is that if you can then hide it.Oh these brainless pakis...
Musharaf trying to maintain his luxurious life style by India bashing, and sadly, Indian media providing platform, raising controversy to attract people at the cost of country? something is fishy? Do India today care about publicity alone or something else?
INDIA IS A GARDEN, LET MANY KINDS OF, "FLOWER BLOOM,"INCLUDING WEED BLOOMING FLOWERES.. LET MIA MUSHARAFF, INDIA BORN, PAKISTAN BREED, COME AND SPEAK.TERRORIST OF TODAY, MAY BE, MAY BE A COME BACK TO CIVILIZED SOCIETY.
Lets all force India Today to retract the invitation they have extended to the MASTER TERRORIST from Pakistan. Lets inundate IT with emails on this subject
I support you in your effort. India Today does not have the right to hurt the feeling of millions of Indians in their endeavour to get some extra circulation. Shame on India Today. Jai Hind.
What a stupid idea to invite Mr Musharraf to India Today conclave? He does not deserve to be invited. He the key conspirator in Kargil war and he is well-known for his double-speak. He is the same guy who usurped the power in Pakistan for years without any validity. He should be banned from any serious meetings anywhere in the world. If I were the PM of India, I would have told him via our high commission in Pakistan that he was not welcome. I would also have advised India Today to not invite those who are proven ant-India which Mr Musharraf is. It sickens me to see him speak and utter complete non-sense. I agree I would prefer to invite ex-PM Mr Sharif or the current president Mr Zardari, if we must invite someone from Pakistan in the prersent situation. Mr Musharraf is the last one to be invited to India. I say "shame on you, India Today".
Pakistan India is a virtual game. Peace versus extremism is the real war. Pakistan should be punished for hiding the terrorists.
More than 2000 soldiers have sacrificed their lives in the Kargil war because of this former military dictator, we should not forget that he is one of the conspirator for any thing happening in the northern state of Jammu and Kashmir.how we can tolerate his presence in the "get-together of intellectuals" is beyond understanding as how a military dictator who has committed a military coup and remained in power for almost a decade can participate in such event and that too in a country who has suffered alot because of his actions in the past.
Does anybody in the world need any proof to see what pakistan is ? Day in and day out we are seeing their leaders struggling to cover up the shit on their face... But it is there for everybody to see... The world's perception about Pakistan has changed beyond repair...They know that they can not convince even an idiot about their worth...The only question people all over the world have in their minds is that "Do we need a scum like this in this world ?"
First of all Musharaf should have shame to enter India.I don't know how many face this Musharaf has? And how this man think himself that he will be allowed to speak along with the world's most distinguised leaders like Nelson Mandela and Glinton. And most importantly should the Govt of India gives a red carpet invitation to this "Kargil terrorist"? Is India a very soft country where Musharaflike terrorists can enter India when ever he can? India can invite the present President of Pakistan or any other leaders like the former Prime Minister of Pakistan Sharif and not the crook Musharaf.
People of India unite and fight Dont allow the blood strained Kargil Rascal Musharaff to participate in the India Today Conclave protest come to the streets and stop this fellow from attending the conclave .Be united and do it JAI HIND .JAI HIND JAI HIND
A rather belated realization, Mr. Musharraf, particularly after Pakistan was exposed as the hotbed of international terroism!!! And about the 'tough guy' stance, remember you resigned rather than face impeachment.
Mr Musharraf will remain a foolishly subborn person who talks too arrogantly but too timid to accept that deception and cheating is top agenda of Pakistani regimes. He himself was/is master cheater and a liar.If he were so good as he speaks of he would have been still in power, ruling Pakistan. What he means by saying "tough guy"?A fanatic radical enemy of India? This guy must not be given Visa/entry in our country because he will try and meddle in politics and be a reason of embarrasment.Once again he,like other Pak politicians,he didn't fail to mention possesstion of nukes and missiles, an open threat indicating towards India.Mr Musharraf, what did you achieve being tough guy which infact you never was?Lost your adventurism in Kargil and ultimately had to draw back like a scared dog with twisted tail from Dictatorship as well. Those who will let him speak/lecture during India Today Conclave can't be intellectuals. What intellect has Musharraf to share?India must refuse Visa to this guy.
Sir Today I learnt from this report that Pakistyan ex-President Parvez Musharraf is visiting India next month to deliver the key-note address at an India-Today enclave. That is shame and very unfortunate. When the people of the country are really so angry with Pakistan govt. (not people) and have broken all the sporting as well as cultural ties, why the news magazine India-Today should play its own game by having to do with any thing with Pakistan especially hosting a person who designed Kargil operation against this country. As a symbolic of my frustration with this journal and being helpless to do any thing else, I shall discontinue my subscription to this news magazine and tell my colleagues to do the same. By cancelling our subscription to the magazine ,at least we shall not be a party to this adventure(mis-) of this national publication.
How can Musharraf escape the blame that under his rule terrorism both cross border and international spread and his army had a role to encourage those extremist elements. He failed to contain terrorism on the border between Pak and Afghan by simply saying it is lawless area and out of bound of Islamabad rule.International community has realised that Pakistan is the problem of solution.Pakistan has weakened considerably and claims of nuclear independence are questionable. You can not threaten the world in the name of nuclear state's assets falling in the hands of extremists and get the aid and do nothing.
I don't know what power he is talking abt...but the news of Swat is a slap on all pakistanis - Including Musharraf. And why this double speak ... was not he aware of Pakistani element involvement being a Militatary General? If a person could not follow chastity while at Post - he has no right to preach the same when he is not at post.
"............If any of our people are involved in whatever happened in Mumbai and it comes out in the open, we should not hide it," ark his words.. He suggests not to hide if it comes out in the open. What if it doen not Mr Musharaf ?
Pakistan is WEAK in all its actions except the bloody rhetorics like Musharaff's. If they r so strong why did they succumb to the pressure of the Taliban related outfit for appying Shariat law in Swat and other regions?? Why cant they take action against the terror group operating inside their territory? why cant they save the life's of their people who are getting killed by Taliban? why cant they save the schools from being burnt? Why cant they save the lifes of the artists from being threatend by the Radical group?? They cant do anything other than cooking up plans against India and they have been doing all these years. They forgot to look inside them and failed to realize that their country is under fire. They were so keen to put India under fire. Pakistan is a big threat to the whole region because of the increased presence of Taliban and the influence of them. Musharaf is a criminal. He just bluff. Why didnt he say this when he was in power? He tries invain to make up his image
Which fool has invited this scoundrel to India?
Why should Mr.Musharraf be allowed to visit India for the India Today enclave. No Pakistani should be allowed to enter India. Why does Mr.Musharaff forget that he too was the past President of Pakistan and during his tenure he has allowed all the Talibans to have a peaceful heaven in Pakistan? Mr.Musharaff is to be blamed for the condition of Pakistan today and the Mumbai attacks. Now that he is not in power he is trying to speak the facts and truth. This was the same man when in power, waged the Kargil war.
Dear Musharraf, who had planed Kargil? you were Army head during that time right? now you r speaking a diffrent tune.(what you plant, thats grows up)
India should arrest this world known wanted terrorist alias rowdy when he enter to our country. We dont need this double speaking un-humain. All people of India should avoid buying India today magazine from today forever. Let them speek more...!
We don't want Mr. Musharraf's intellects, he will be better of use in his own country where Taliban is claiming strong grounds. For the nuke power he is referring to, may kindly use the same in attaining lost grounds to Taliban !! Another weak leader of a weak country. In past too leaders from pakistan has run away from their own home land in pursuit of self security, this shows how dearly these leaders are needed in that country.
