President George Bush, who was "eager for any foreign policy win" before the expiry of his term in January 2009, is pressing the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh "hard to finally work this (nuclear deal) out," The New York Times said.
In an editorial headlined, 'No Rush, Please', the American daily argued "there is no reason at all to rush.
President Bush gave away far too much and got far too little for this deal".
Even as it praised President Bush for building on the Clinton administration legacy to forge stronger ties with "a burgeoning power whose democratic values provide a unique basis for cooperation," the daily said: "It was a mistake to let India and industry lobbyists persuade him to make the nuclear deal the centerpiece."
The Times underlined that now it would be "a mistake for the United States to try and ram through the remaining approvals by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) board, the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) and Congress just to meet the artificial deadline of Bush’s Presidency."
It said President Bush may be running out of time, but Congress, the IAEA and the NSG "will need plenty of it to review the agreement before deciding whether to grant their respective approvals."
"At a minimum, they must insist that international suppliers halt nuclear trade if India tests another nuclear weapon, as it last did in 1998. And they must insist that India accept the fullest possible monitoring of its civilian nuclear facilities by IAEA inspectors," the daily stressed.

i dont know what exactly we the human beings are going to gain from the Ndeal, apart from political issue, the one thing which is highly needed to concern is nature, already global warming is increasing tremondously like any thing, it would make our world to take war against us with the help of some weapons like tsunami, this(Ndeal) would be the key for another nuclear world war and i think that would be the last world war, because after that there will be no world to make a world war..............!
If N-deal leads to international curb on India's future option, then it is likely to be a strict no. It would imply that Sino-US combine is working to compromise Indian security options by throttling Indian energy interests. The likely consequence would be an explosive mixture of Swadeshi forces joining hands with Leftist-Socialist combine to neutralize their presence in Iran and Middle-East. India has already suffered deeply due to US, particularly its inteli-Ops. The mood of forgiveness which has been created with so much difficulty would be frittered away by US not recognizing Indian Constitutional rights to manage its own affairs of a billion strong nation. If US fails the neo-colonial test second time, it will find allies world-wide to tackle this new axis. It is advisable for US to maintain the anti-terror shield by honouring the commitment made by Prez Bush.
Indo-US nuclear agreement needs stategic evaluation after it gets through the Indian governments internal issues of survival. Its going to be a muti billion dollar business for US,strategic thinking should be the call of the day. Perhaps in the long run both states will be playing a major role in comming years, as the china is expending in the East, US and India can contain the threat from the big red dragon.
George Bush has created lot of damage to human community both in terms of life and wealth.WMD was false excuse billions of dallars spent un accounted.Nobody knows where the money goes.Hundreds of people dying in the artficially created war against terror for looting money for vested group.N deal cannot be a transparent deal I believe it will not be passed by american congress. It will definitey befooled indian people if it happens asthe way it is being persuaded.
Indian elected mafias should be punished for not going ahead from the right start with the nuke deal. Very little, and very late Mr PM Manmohan. Despite India's good record and being non-signatory to NPT, India should not get any fuel without being a signatory member and Obama will do just that. What will cheap Indian politicians do when six nuclear reactors are cold and no fuel is available? Talk with Iran to get gas at higher price to invite sanctions from US for aiding axis of evil? Why has been the gas pipe line deal going so slow with Iran? US is smart and will only have the last laugh. Yes and the loosers will be poor Indian people, not the politicians. Why vision, foreign policy, leverage have been cooked in last five years? NONE, then get rid of current elected mafias for aam aadmi and get the pro-hindu wise old morons, who will submit to Jinnah as secular, take no action for Kargil and will not find insurance for Indo-Iran gas pipeline traveling through hostile Pakistan.
India should get rid of the sinking boat,America led by the most stupid leader in the History, Bush. sizeable percentage in Indian Congress also do not want this N dea with US, but to save their face and hide the pressure of steep inflation the rush is there. America is like a bubble likely to burst any time. Because of US hate mongering and stupid policies, the world is suffering from inflation, high oil prices and ofcourse high security problem. World is more dangerous and unsafe place with the American policy and India should not join hands with them and sink. Indian made America what it is along with other expatriots, then why not Indians depend on themselves. Dr. AbdulKalam and other Scientist have rightly guided that current N deal is no way better than Indian Nuclear techniques which is more economical, safer and sustainable. Prime Minister Manmohan will do a real justice if he thinks in these angles before finalizing the deal, else he will be remembered along with stupid Bush.
Fools rush in where Angels fear to tread!
NYT is the His Master's Voice of Democrats. And sensing a Democrat President, they are publishing such crap to earn brownie points to fight their media competitors. India must ignore this trash and reward its opponents with some special scoop.
India has the will to go it alone. Please stop being indepted to the US for its hidden agenda of selfish interest.
This is a monumental treaty that would not only alter Indo / US relations but change the political map in South Asia. As always the devils is in details. Both Bush and Singh are short timers, Bush will be gone within 120 days and Singh will be gone when next elections are held. Both Bush and Singh are looking for legacy and winning point for their respective parties, republicans and Indian national congress. The opposition parties in these countries are not going to let Bush or Singh have a victory. What is so bad in waiting for the next leaders? Anytime during a major purchase or signing of a contract if the other side tells you that you have limited time to make a decision, just walk away from the table. The other side will come back with a much better offer.
This is the same paper which endorsed the Iraq war. This is the same paper which kept on printing false information on Iraq nuclear capabilities, and now it is advising Bush not to rush to sign treaty with India.Paper like that, who has the time to read.
NYT is a left-liberal leaning paper which has consistently opposed the Iraq war. Also in US, the so called left parties are hardly leftist. If anywhere else in the world, anyone called them left, all would have a good laugh.
New York times, like other notorious US media, is a white racist mafias’ propaganda machine and its view is no surprise. These white racist mafias are an angry, corrupt, frustrated criminals; characteristic of the dying lot. Will any responsible leader take seriously the views of this (NYT) fascist media? NYT should note that India would not allow terms to be dictated on it or surrender to bullies, big or small.
this is the general feeling. first symptom that more pressure and restrictions will follow in future on indian nuclear tests and usage. now after 1 year US will come to inspect our civilian nuclear sites to ensure that it is not deviated to military purposes. they will force us allow them to visit our military installation to carry out the inspection. more will follow shortly. wait and see.
