Mallya made it clear that he was not happy with the squad, currently languishing at the bottom of the IPL points table, which has been ridiculed as a Test team in Twenty20 jersey.
The liquor baron said he had some players in mind but Dravid and Sharma completely ignored them and went ahead with their own plan.
"I had my own list (of players) but the fact is Rahul Dravid and Charu Sharma had their own list and at the end of the day, I decided to take the back seat," Mallya said.
"I was very tempted to bid for players whom I wanted but they held me back. Obviously things have turned out differently," he said.
He said Sharma backed Dravid to the hilt and even in the second auction, where the captain was not present, the former CEO discouraged Mallya to buy players of his choice.
"When Rahul Dravid was not present in the second auction, I wanted to acquire some players but Charu Sharma was very tentative about them. I mean I bought Misbah-ul Haq because I was determined to do it. There were other players I was discouraged about," Mallya said.
On sacking Sharma and replacing him with former Test player Brijesh Patel, Mallya said, "Charu Sharma was appointed CEO because I thought he understood cricket and he would add value to the team and the entire Royal Challengers initiative."
Mallya said Patel's appointment was necessitated because he was tired of complaints that the team did not have good practice facilities in its base in Bangalore.
"When I was questioning the performance of the team, all I was told was that practice facilities are bad, then I was told there was no bonding in the team...so everything was blamed on a particular event or lack of infrastructure.
"So I said to myself things can't continue like this and I brought Brijesh Patel. He is the honorable secretary of the KSCA (Karnataka State Cricket Association) and who better a person to provide match facilities and whatever else the team needs at its base in Bangalore. He understands cricket as well," Mallya explained.
The flamboyant liquor-baron also made it clear that IPL had an unmistakable corporate face, which makes it evidently distinct from other tournaments.
"At the end of the day, people need to understand that the IPL has a corporate side to it, and a very definitive corporate side. It is not at all cricket in the traditional sense," he added.
Now that the team's semifinal hopes have gone up in smoke, Mallya expects Dravid and his teammates to win a few matches to salvage some pride.
"I want from Rahul Dravid to do the best for the team and to produce some good results for us because I don't think Rahul Dravid enjoys being at the bottom of the league tables, and certainly I don't." Mallya added.

The sketch looks like that of a Paki cricketer. Along with the Paki cricketers their cooks and many ISI members as friends have arrived in India and that could be one of the reason for the Jaipur serial blasts. About 3 crore illegal mulsims from Bangladesh is present in India and many are in Jaipur. Congress government refused to deport them in spite of court orders. The fundmental reason is Nehru was a muslim grandson of a Delhi muslim policeman who escaped the British after the 1857. Indira was a muslim with a hindu name but also change to Islam officially in a London mosque to Maimoona Begum to marry Feroz Khan a muslim. Circumcised Rajiv and Sanjay were muslims and now it is a combination of christian muslim outputs in Rahul. One should read the one sided Indus water treaty written by Nehru for Pakis to understand the gravity of the problem.
Dear Ra have as much experience in cricket,as much is your age.And hence it is my personal feeling that you watch your team play from outside to gain knowledge of your team and the game as such.Perhaps you are still in the 50-50 format of the game and willneed a good counselling from Mr Vijay Mallya to administer things,in an efficient way as is done by him in the corporate world.Better luck next time Mr Mallya.Yours Sicerely,Gp Capt J RamaswamyBangaloreI
Indians should boycott IPL as it has many Paki players. They have come to India with their cooks and terrorist friends and may be the reason for the Jaipur serial blasts
Vijay Mallya gets in to things about which he has no idea. Vijay Mallya has got the Deva Gowda type mind and is not a good judge of people or for that matter on any other thing. I still remember his Dubai venture which was a lube oil recovery plant from used lube oil. He moved around in Dubai, and had a yacht which was much bigger than the one owned by sheikh Mohammad. Eventually his financially non viable venture was closed down and all the vehicles were put on auction by the Bank Standard and Chartered. It was a shameful thing for a guy from India. .
Mallya is very right in criticizing Dravid and Sharma. IPL is a corporate stuff and a lot of money has gone into it. Hundreds of millions of dollars have been poured in by business magnates on behalf of their companies and failure can not be justified. Personally I am happy that these so called stars get piece of their bosses' mind. These cricketers are expecting 5 to 10 fold money next year onward. That would mean top notch players getting in range of 5 to 10 million dollars. These stars would have to perform, be it Dravid,Ganguly or Sachin. There is no free lunch in the corporate world. Perform or get out. People with Aussie set of minds would survive. Good on you, Mallya for coming out in open.
It is very disappointing to see these comments from Mallya. One does not wash his dirty linen in public. He is the owner of the team, and if he gave Dravid or Charu that responsibility, it is his problem. He simply cannot wash off his hands by accusing them. He should rather hold himself accountable for selecting wrong people for team selection. One can clearly see his frustration as he is not getting the return from the large investments he has made in the IPL to promote his liquor brands. But he is a businessman, and should take it as a bad investment and try to rectify the situation instead of bad mouthing his officials in public. And this is surely not going to do anything good to the morale of the team which is already at the pits.
VERY GOOD MALLYA - WELL DONEDravid is not used to responsibility / accountability. After his teams performance in the world cup, he did not bother to answer his critics nor took responsibility, he came out unscatched. Give him a good dose of corporate culture. Be good and throw him out for his performance.
dear mr. Malya, even before the IPL matches started, I had written to binoy george, that BOTTOM team in the LIST would be Dravid's....!!!!! YOU CAN VERIFY IT...AND I AM SO FAR FROM THE COUNTRY ...!!!to us in the US,Dravid is a bookkeeper. he just ploys for his personal score, and team spirit ids not him.many matches are lost just because his lifting himself at the cost of other players, want to compare? think of Arjansingh hrd guy.BOTH ARE GOING THRU MANAPOUSE !!!!!!!IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE ME ASK, GANGULY, OR IRFAN PATHAN,OR SEHWAG, OR YUVRAJSINGH AND EVEN DHONI.......
Both Charu Sharma and Rahul Dravid made a fool of the Booze King. Instead of Charu Mallya should have made Mandira Bedi as the CEO.
Sir, instead of all this cricket , cheerleaders etc., PLEASE COME OUT OF THIS AND DONATE ALL THIS MONEY AS SCHOLARSHIP TO POOR STUDENTS. THEY NEED THIS HELP. AFTERALL TO WHO IS GOING TO BENEFIT OUT OF THIS CRICKET MATCHES !! Try to think of helping the poor students. This is the service which god definitely will appreciate. Forget about all this cricket competionsn. In the name of cricket we are wasting lot of time, our energy etc., but at the end nothing achieved except people have lost their precision time. Instead of wasting their time in watching TV for cricket play, let them help in working for social causes.
well if you think sports and entertainment are a waste of time and money, why dont u convert yourself into a saint and donate your life for the cause of millions and set an example. you should promise that you wil never marry nor seek entertainment of any form in your entire life and instead sacrifice your life for the cause of poor people that you were mentioning. it will be a really great thing. please do it.
dravid talks well.girls are supposed to drool on him.dravid is supposed to be intelligent manBut dravid could never score fast. And is someone who does not like the world to see his inadequacies exposed. (Robin Uthappa or Gambir or Rohit Sharma in the team would have exposed dravid's mediocrity more)
Vijay Mallya has now learnt an expensive lesson. Obviously he got bad advice, and now he is repenting for giving in to the captain and CEO. Rahul Dravid is good at giving out excuses, and using those tired phrases again and again. It seems that Mr. Mallya has picked up phrases like 'at the end of the day' from Dravid. Dravid is not fit to play T-20 cricket, but may be good as a captain because of his experience. And that Wasim Jaffer's wife go upset because he was bid for low price compared to others. Jaffer wanted people to look at his runs, and not on style or flamboyance. Now for Jaffer there is no flamboyance, no style, and no runs either. He should have been happy for what he got, instead of complaining to the media before showing his performance.
When Vijay Mallya selected the communist captain Rahul Dravid who is more politics than play, his team was doomed. There is not much need to be said about his corporate face. Vijay Mallya paid bribe to become a RS MP to the sleepy and shifty MLAs of his state. When ten bottles of a bear or liquor is produced, mostly one bottle goes through the government route and the rest nine bottles is routed through the non governmental route. However the sleepy and shifty Kannadigas are much better than the low IQ Tamils that produce the Ramdosses and Baalus. That is one of the reasons why Bangalore is overrun by outsiders and made it in to a cosmopolitan city, but unfortunately, the local sleepy and shifty Deva Gowdas live in primitive times and wont allow the infrastructure to develop as it requires some land here and there.
Mr Mallayya, watch out. The Manager’s of your business outfits are staring at you.Listening to your outbursts. C’mon you are spitting on yourself. After all it is your Fort and you hold the reins. Haven’t you seen “downs’ in your Corporate outfits?Rahul or Charu had team interest in their minds. And that is why you all also kept mum during selection, and now when things get hot you play the blame-game.Be a gentleman, after all cricket is a gentleman’s game. Or is it not anymore? Thanks to BCCI and the owners like you with copious supply of money!Welcome to Instant Cricket, welcome to Scantily-clad white skinned cheer-leaders. The media says Tendulkar is supporting indiscipline in the form of Harbhajan. Farewell to Sportsmanship.
the first bad choices were rahul dravid and anil kumble. both have not served any good.
Mr. Mallaya is a whinner and poor owner. If he is thinks that passing the blame on Charu and Dravid will solve the problem, then he his an one sore loser and owner. He is the owner and he could have put his stamp on selection if he felt that the team was not being selected correctly. He kept quiet then and now he complains when they don't perform. Having stated that, I do blame Dravid for the selection or composition of the team. He is wrong in saying that Jaffer, Kallis and other good test players will do good in T20 format. He is fooling himself to think like that. When he himself is not the Indian one day team, how can he be an icon player in T20 format. Robin Uthappa should have been a icon, if they needed one. BCCI is wrong on pre-determing the icon players as they have forced franchisee's to dole out a lot of money on players that don't deserve that kind of money in T20 format. I hope IPL fails and franchisee stop paying that kind of money to BCCI when they don't have any say.
The one to blame is none other than Mallaya himself. For a quick finish games, mallaya's selection of the Team Captain is a grave and costly mistake and decision taken by himself. You have to venture into things which you know better and not to experiment things as it goes and put the shit on others. On the other hand, who is Charusharma, is he a veteran cricketer,he must have been playing street cricket and has absolutely no knowlege of the game of cricket, but can talk as usually our indians have the talent of talking on any subjects. Poor Mallaya is going to witness that the team is not going to the last four in couple of days. Now time is too short for him to sack the team captain and asking his team to bounce back. Mallaya better concentrate on your business, your name and the corporate name would get spoiled through this episode.
Why don’t you (Mr Mallya) play and take up the position of coach cum captain? I hope only then you will understand the difference between playing in the field and cheating people and others to gather money! Probably you are totally surrounded by cronies and lost all your senses of judgment (other than collecting money by any means, of course).
Next time players and Managers will turn down offers from Mallya or ask in EXCESS so he goes away or will opt for another team for the sake of their own image.Players like Brett Lee are very concerned about their public image.Don't know about Indian players and managers.
Mallya is wasting money and is himself a duffer and spoilt guy who messed up the Formula car racing and they lost and even had breakdown.WHO DOES HE BLAME FOR IT.
One can understand the frustration and disappointment of owner Mallya. His team has succumb without giving fight. For that matter even if you notice team led by BCCI appointed iconic players are languishing at the bottom half..One of the icon has not played even a match. All four icons namely Sachin,Dravid,Ganguly and Laxman have fared badly and what is surprising they had opted out of T-20 tournament in SA.BCCI has showered largesse on these players for the reasons best known to them.As regards to RC Dravid is known for his stubbornness and aloofness. He is irritating type of person thoroughly moulded into test format. With this type of the person at the helm of affairs what can you expect out of him.How many times he has changed his own batting order meaning he is the central figure in scheme of thing. It was laughable when one saw Jaffer and Dravid coming out to open an inning in the first match.Well I wish RC best of luck in the remiander of the matches to salvage some prestige. They lack finishing touch and that is where interaction and thought process comes into play.
What a captain can do if none of his players are playing well??? Kallis is such a great one day player, didn't live upto the expectations, boucher also failed miserably, except hitting few boundaries in last over by closing his eyes.No proper batting order is also one of the worries.
Dravid while playing looks under pain and his game is a pain for specators as well, so he is a loose -loose proposition
Good, Mallya got rid of Charu Sharma who was good only to give pep talk with his sidekick Ms Mandira Bedi. Charu must have realised that managing a team and winning matches is not his cup of tea and better leave it to professionals.
IPL has brought lots of things to limelight. RR which was downplayed as underdogs have proved the reviewes wrong. Shane has proved wrong that having big names will win matches. It is more of team work. RR even lack a formal coach. Of course, they have many playes in good form like Watson and Pathan.
