Kolkata, April 14 The police have launched a massive manhunt after an undertrial escaped from the Dum Dum Central jail on Monday.

The escapee has been identified as Nasim Ali Mollah (22), and the police also raided his house at Amdanga in Barasat to trace him. Ali, who was charged with murderous assault on his brother, came to the jail three days ago and was put in Cell No 2 along with 30 other prisoners.

“Today during the routine head count at 4 in the afternoon, Mollah was found to be missing. Soon a manhunt was launched, since the search has not yielded any result alarm bells were set to ring and the police started searching for him outside the jail also,” said B D Sharma, IGP, prisons.

He also said that they were not sure, if Mollah had fled, or he was still hiding somewhere. “We are looking for him both inside and outside the jail. And even if he had fled, I can’t understand how he managed to do so,” said Sharma.
