The 27-year-old actress, who romances actor Tobey McGuire's character of Spider-Man/Peter Parker, has acted in the three movies of the money-spinning franchise.
She has also signed for the fourth installment where her character will be killed and replaced by the 'Devil Wears Prada' star, Star magazine reported.
"The plan is for her character to be written out, probably by dying," a source said.
"Anne will take over as Peter Parker's new love interest for this project and for Spider-Man 5 and 6 which are being written now. Anne's in LA doing a lot of meetings on the movie, because filming is right around the corner," the source added.

Writing out Mary-Jane would make Spider-man pointless. Who will he save and who will he romance. Black Cat, Gwen Stacy, not as big as Mary-Jane. Movie without Mary-Jane is stupid. Having the story without Mary-Jane is like Peanut Butter without jelly, a pie without a filling, or a house without a roof. Thats how essential she is to the story. I foresee this won't be such a great as the first three.
