New Delhi While the economic meltdown is making certain that more or less all companies are putting cost saving strategies in action, EXL Service has stepped up its training spends by 75 per cent in 2008, compared to 2007 in various fields. Mr. Amitabh Hajela, who is the Global Head of Human Resources at EXL, believes that since EXL is a growing company, it is significantly important for them to train the employees so that they can take up greater responsibilities.

He and his team are relentlessly working towards creating new platforms to train his people particularly for management growth and improving their skill sets to cover new areas and processes.

Most of these training programmes are in functional areas such as finance, US GAAP and SEC reporting standards.

EXL has also partnered with management institutes such as MDI, Gurgaon and ISB, Hyderabad wherein we let our employees go through customised Management Development Programmes in batches to educate them on the required skills.

Moreover, companies want to create new positions from within the organisation and training helps them in doing so. Mr. Hajela says that 70 per cent of the new positions are filled in from within EXL itself. Additionally, EXL has revamped its performance management system last year. The revamping exercise was taken up with an objective of aligning the individuals’ capabilities and skills set with the roles they perform. As a result of this standardization process, EXL was able to identify more than 400 unique roles within the organization.
