Chandigarh, February 19 The UT Education Department has decided to withdraw the recognition of Shivalik Public School, Sector 41, Chandigarh.

A team from the department had found the department not complying with the 15 per cent quota for underprivileged children rule.

The school will be served the final order by Wednesday. Earlier, the Education Department had withdrawn recognition of Sanjay Public School, Sector 44, Chandigarh. Three more schools are learnt to be on the department’s list including Strawberry Fields, Sector 26, Bhawan Vidyalaya, Sector 27 and Moti Ram Arya School, Sector 27.

Shivalik Public School has also failed to get an occupation certificate from the Estate Office. Other discrepancies include failure to pay complete salary to teachers as per CBSE guidelines.

“The school did not comply to even 1 per cent reservation let alone 15 per cent as directed by the UT Education Department. The school’s recognition was also overdue for the last six months,” said Director Public Instructions (Schools), S K Setia.

The Education Department team that had visited the school said Principal D S Bedi had also misbehaved with them.

Bedi, however, said, “We have provided all the documents to the team showing that the school is following all the rules. The team was satisfied by the documents produced”.
