Kolkata, June 10 State Commerce and Industries Minister Nirupam Sen on Tuesday said one should not solely focus on IT education and ignore core sectors of education.

At the three-day fair organised under the banner of ECUBE, a state education employment entrepreneurship summit, Sen said that education should not be viewed solely from the business perspective. “Mushrooming private engineering colleges seem to focus more on the job related IT courses, rather than teaching the core basics of engineering like mechanical, chemical, architectural engineering,” the minister added.

He also stressed on the importance of industries in West Bengal for development and employment opportunities. “When Tata Motors came to the state, they created one major industry and 55 small and medium industries. We should stress on manufacturing industries,” said Sen. We have asked the industries to create training centres for students, which facilitated their jobs in industries, he added.

The fair provides for spot registration of free studentship scheme and information about various government subsidies.
