Kanpur, July 19: Health authorities in Kanpur were surprised when a year-and-a-half-old girl was found infected with polio P-3 virus even after getting eight rounds of polio drops.

According to Chief Medical Officer S K Tiwari, Sabri of Madari Gheda village was given eight rounds of P-1 drops but not P-3 drops. When samples of her stool were sent for examination to the WHO lab in Mumbai, it was confirmed that she was suffering from polio P-3 virus.

A team of health officials have been dispatched to Sarsaul to examine all the children. The last polio case in Kanpur was found in 2002. Tiwari said the case highlights negligence on behalf of the health department and disciplinary action will be taken against those responsible.
