Kolkata, February 13 Barely a fortnight into the robbery that took place on January 23 at an elderly woman’s house in Salt Lake, another elderly couple’s house was robbed in a manner last night, at 101 A, Vivekananda Road, in the Girish Park police station area.

In the earlier incident, a group of miscreants armed with sharp weapons had allegedly ransacked 72-year-old Aparna Basu’s house and decamped with Rs 1,500 and some important documents. In last night’s incident too, three miscreants armed with weapons allegedly entered the house of Khitish (81) and Sefali Chakraborty (76), late this evening and took away Rs 3,600 along with a wrist watch and a gold chain.

Officer-in-charge, Girish Park police station, BK Sapui said: “The Chakrabortys stated in the complaint that three miscreants, each with a bhojali, entered their house when the couple was alone in the house. The thugs allegedly knocked the door around 8 pm and snatched the key of the almirah from them, before decamping with the money and other materials kept inside.”

Khitish Chakraborty, a retired army official, lives here with his wife and daughter Shampa (33), who works at a private travel agency in Park Street.

Khitish Chakraborty said: “My daughter was not at home when the incident took place. Around 7.45 pm, somebody knocked on the door. The moment I opened it, three armed men stormed in and threatened us of dire consequences if we raised an alarm. Before locking the door, they snatched the key of the almirah and took all the money, a watch and a gold chain. All this happened in a matter of just one hour.”

The police, however, said they were suspicious about the incident. “We found some irregularities in the statement of Shampa. We are not ruling out her involvement,” said an investigating officer. “Interrogation of Chakraborty’s next-door neighbours also did not yield any clue. Shampa, however, was not available for comment.
