Patiala, March 2 Encroachments in public places are a common sight in Patiala. However, some shopkeepers have gone to the extent of permanently installing LPG connections there, posing a potential threat to the public.

While the authorities concerned have turned a blind eye towards this serious violation, some shops in the town are doing brisk business in the absence of any checks on the practice.

Earlier, the Patiala Municipal Corporation had carried out a drive to clear encroachments in the town, but it failed to remove these permanent set ups in public places.

The permanent cooking facilities set up by shops in public corridors in Leela Bhawan market has been there for the past many years, but authorities have ignored the violations and no action has been taken against shop owners so far.

When contacted, Mayor Ajit Pal Singh Kohli said the corporation will initiate necessary steps to remove any such permanent set ups in public places. Deputy Commissioner DS Grewal was not available for comments.
