New Delhi, March 15: With situation in Tibet turning volatile, its spiritual leader the Dalai Lama has asked the Chinese leadership to stop using ‘brute force’ and hold dialogue to address the ‘long-simmering resentment’ of the people there.

"I am deeply concerned over the situation that has been developing in Tibet following peaceful protests in many parts of Tibet, including Lhasa, in recent days," he said in a statement as clashes were reported from Tibet, including its capital Lhasa, in which 10 people have died so far.

He said the protests are a manifestation of the ‘deep-rooted resentment’ of the Tibetan people under the ‘present governance’ back home.

Contending that unity and stability under ‘brute force is at best a temporary solution’, the Dalai Lama said, "it is unrealistic to expect unity and stability under such a rule and would therefore not be conducive to finding a peaceful and lasting solution."

He appealed to the Chinese leadership to ‘stop using force and address the long-simmering resentment of the Tibetan people through dialogue with the Tibetan people’.

Lessons for India by jay on 17 Mar 2008

We should redefine “development”. It seems that we are now obsessed with only money. What China does worldwide (environment, Dafur etc) and now doing in Tibet is a shame for any civilized country. China is a barbaric country under its communist leaders with medieval, feudal mentality (but with lot of money). Only monetary affluence and flaunting money will not improve the situation in China or perception about that country. India also has a couple of lessons from this. Only monetary success of a society will not guarantee peace. We need to respect each other’s culture, language. What China is doing now in Tibet is thrashing Tibetan culture by mass migration from mainland China and gradually sidelining Tibetan indigenous people. India must not repeat that same mistake (in Mumbai or elsewhere in India).

Nehru betryed India and Tibet by n.krishna on 16 Mar 2008

In 1914, India entered into a convention with Tibet. Tibetans put faith in India and they chose to be guided by India but Nehru betrayed them. India suffered because of the Traitor Nehru who refused the Permanent seat in UN and instead suggested Chinese name. Ghiyasuddin Ghazi (Ghazi is the surname given to muslims if they kill any non muslim) from Delhi in 1857 escaped from the British army that was killing all muslims. He changed his name to Ganga Dhar. Ghiyasuddins son was Motilal Nehru and Jawaharlal Nehru was his grandson. The Indus treaty clearly shows that Nehru was a traitor muslim. Nehru signed one sided perpetual Indus water treaty against all norms where we have only 16.4% of the water while Pakistan has 83.6%. 62.4 million sterling pounds was also given to Pakis. Nehru signed one sided Indus water treaty with Pakis that tries to hide the fact that we are giving away our family jewels to Pakis byhiding the sharing of water in Claus II of the treaty. The quantum of water is not mentioned in the main text and instead mentions that three eastern rivers Sutlej, Beas and Ravi for India and three western rivers Indus, Jhelum and Chenab for Pakis

Nehru-Gandhi family has a history towarsd foreign rulers and culture by Abhijit on 17 Mar 2008

Nehru-Gandhi Family has a traditions for generations to serve foreigners and foreign culture.Motilal's grandfather, Lakshmi Narayan, became the first Vakil of the East India Company at the Mughal Court of Delhi. Motilal's father, Gangadhar, was a police officer in Delhi in 1857, when it was engulfed by the Mutiny. This is the true story of Ganga Dhar (not Ganga Dhar Nehru), father of Moti Lal Nehru. The adjunct 'Nehru' derived from the Persian word 'Nahr' meaning a canal or nullah, was adopted by Moti Lal, who, like all members of his family, had a fascination for alien Mohammedan names mostly in Arabic or Persian. The adjunct 'Nehru' added a Persian flavor to his otherwise Hindu name. That was very desirable for the family, as will be explained later. Otherwise, under normal circumstances, his name would have been Moti Lal Dhar. Motilal Nehru became one of the first generation of young Indians to receive 'Western-style' college education. He attended Muir College at Agra, but failed to appear for the final year B.A examinations. He then decided to join legal profession and appeared for law examination. Motilal Nehru secured first place in law examination and started his practice as lawyer in Kanpur in 1883.

Indian leadership is not at all able to deal with China since independence by jatin on 16 Mar 2008

Indian leadership is just a bunch of cowards and opportunists. They are scared to death to oppose China in any form or any forum. We have lost 1962 war against China mainly due to our incompetent political leadership and will are loosing again against Chinese in global diplomatic arena. We are also loosing our own interest while openly siding with China while China is not stopping its Pakistan appeasement policy, subversive activities against India, encroaching Indian territories and so on. Indian political leadership is totally ill equipped and able to counter Chinese policy of hegemony and dominance in south East Asia and the world.

Condemn China by jagan on 16 Mar 2008

Indian leaders must learn a thing or two from the Tibetans. They dont have a country or strength, yet they have the courage to stand up for their country. China has illegally occuipied parts or India in the North-East and Kashmir, yet our so-called leaders, especially the Commies, treat China as a holy land. Shame on Indian leadership.

Indians have moral responsibility to support Tibetans. by KMR Overseas on 15 Mar 2008
