Mumbai Believing that the lone 26/11 terrorist captured alive, Ajmal Amir Kasab, a primary school dropout from Pakistan, cannot read English, advocate K B N LAM has sent a second letter to Kasab, this time in Urdu, urging him to accept him as his lawyer.

The letter was sent to the Mumbai Police Crime Branch on February 11. Lam has received an acknowledgement from the police. Lam, who studied law in London, practises mostly at the Small Causes court. Soon after Kasab’s arrest, when the court-appointed lawyer, Dinesh Mota, refused to take up the case, Lam had volunteered to defend Kasab and written to him in English.

In the letter, Lam states he is neither a Hindu nor a Muslim. “I am a Parsi by birth, as was the Qaid-e-Azam’s wife. So communal concerns ought not to be so relevant to you,” it says. The letter adds: “I can quite understand that you would prefer to be defended by a Pakistani lawyer, but unless the court grants special permission, a Pakistani advocate cannot work in an Indian court.”

The letter, translated into Urdu for Lam by a retired Indian Navy commander who lived in Rawalpindi until Partition, also explains to Kasab his rights. It also says Kasab should eat vegetarian food and learn meditation and yoga. “This sort of association with ahimsa, the focal point of Indian culture, will enable you to believe that those who destroy themselves or others in the name of religion do not really belong to any religion. You may soon start accepting how utterly erroneous and unethical the Partition of this country was. It would be good if arrangements could be made for your parents to meet you,” the letter reads.

Mr. Lam you should explain of meditation, yoga and vegetarian to VHP, RSS and people like Narendra Modi first. Being vegetarian, doing yoga and meditation is nothing to do with the terrorism.

Idea of India.. by am on 16 Feb 2009

Going by the law and trials, this guy kasab is going to face death sentence anyway. His actions directly killed and injured several, and destroyed many homes. It is no way that he can escape the noose. Before death, he must feel the beauty of India. He must realize that in India, the legal framework values his right to life, something that he totally ignored on the tragic night of Nov 26 at CST station. This is the idea of India, which they tried to destroy, and miserably failed.
