The 15th Parliament is probably the youngest in Indian history and the 26-year old, son of veteran Parliamentarian late P M Sayeed, is full of ideas on how to develop his remote constituency. Besides focusing on education, health and tourism sector, the Congress MP told PTI in an interview that he plans to make efforts to make Laskhadweep a 100 per cent literacy level in the state.
Former Speaker P A Sangma's daughter Agatha Sangma was the youngest MP in the last House at the age of 27. Sayeed is a bearer of a strong legacy. His father P M Sayeed became a Member of Parliament at the age of 25 in 1967 (rpt) 1967. The senior Sayeed remained MP from this constituency for 37 years since then.
Listing his other priorities, he said, "I plan to set up a desalination plant in Kavarati, the capital so that the abundant sea water can be made available to local people for drinking". "With young people entering politics I can foresee the nation's bright future," he said adding, "My reward is being a back bencher in Parliament."
