Kolkata, May 11 After three weeks of search, the city police finally succeeded in catching burglar Basanta Fumra (35) again, who had escaped from their custody on April 22.

Acting on a tip-off, the police arrested Fumra from the Dum Dum airport on Saturday night. He was produced in Bankshal court and remanded in judicial custody.

According to DC South Rajesh Subarno, a police team was tracking his activities.

Fumra was arrested for stealing jewellery worth Rs 15 lakh from a showroom on Camac Street on April 20. He, however, managed to escape from the police when he was asked to sit on the bench outside the lock up after he complained that he was not feeling well.

Following which the Officer In-charge of Shakespeare Sarani police station was also served a showcause notice. A sub-inspector and a constable were also suspended.
