Mumbai, February 16: Maintaining his tough stand towards North Indians, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray has vowed not to allow celebration of Uttar Pradesh day and warned his party will take on ‘political goondaism’ of North Indians in Maharashtra with open hands.

"No programme like UP Day, which shows North Indians poltical goondaism will be allowed to take place here. We will first request them with folded hands. If that did not work, we will face them with open hands", Thackeray said in an interview to Marathi weekly Lokprabha.

Raj said he did not subscribe to the view that his party's anti-North Indians campaign was unconstitutional.

"One must abide by the basic principles of Constitution. But its intricacies keep changing. Don't we amend the Constitution?" Thackeray said.

"Today's issues were non-existent when the Constitution was drafted. The situation has changed now," he said.

Justifying his objection to influx of migrants into Mumbai, Raj said "am I the only one who has this grievance? Sheila Dixit, Prabha Rau said the same thing (recently). Similar sentiments are expressed in Assam."

"Hasn't somebody said that every generation has its constitution?" Raj added, referring to Thomas Jefferson's quote.

As to resorting to MNS workers indulging in violence and the law and order situation arising out of it, Raj said, "we had to take to the street so that North Indians did not damage the law and order situation permanently. Even Gandhi, Bhagat Singh had to break the law".

Indian Democracy and Cheap Politicians by Joseph on 17 Feb 2008

As I wrote earlier, to bring peace in Maharashtra or any other part of India, all these cheap goonda politicians creating troubles should be hanged or atleast given life inprisonment as punishment!! Beside that the central government should make arrangements to give compulsory education to all citizen so that they learn the real value of democracy and that way they do not run behind these cheap politicians. In democratic India we are only making the mockery of the democracy.

LET'S UNITE...INDIANS by a nation lover on 17 Feb 2008

If these people like Raj Thackeray and Bal Thackeray are thrown to the public for trial, they would cut them into pieces and throw it to street dogs. When people are loving each other despite religion or region, global wastes like Thackerays are trying to create enemity between people. Are these people so jobless to create issues out of nowhere..?? This nasty 3rd rate goonda had also raised certain aligations against Amitabh Bachchan. Is he qualified enough to atleast lick Bachchan's chappals..? Is there a government here..? This is a request from Indians(not Maharashtrians, Biharis, Rajasthanis or anyone else). Please arrest him, and kill him for this country's sake. Do the same with Bal Thackeray and other peope who do similar things..It is better to give two lives instead of hundreds of lives that they take with their words and their foolish party men(mentally retarded, since they do what their masters ask them to do). PLEASE....this is for India..There are no states in India. There's only one country..and that is I N D I A

LET'S FIGHT THE EVIL by Guruji on 17 Feb 2008

Isnt there any law and order in this country..? Who's Raj Thackeray ? or Bal Thackeray ? Gods ?If their can show any goondaism against anyone in Maharashtra, then what's the need of law and order in this country...? Let military be unleashed in Maharashtra and shoot every member of shiv sena and Nav Nirman Sena, so that peace is maintaed in the state.. Only then can India dream of the Soviet, Socialist, Secular nation which it has dreamed of since independence..!! Let all of us, the real citizens of India, join hands despite any state, religion, creed, rich or poor, to fight against evils like these that creates enemity between good friends..

Jan-Nayak Raj Thakerey Ji by ashutosh mishra on 17 Feb 2008

Doston maaf karo itne gusse me mat aao. Do you vent your spleen at a demented soul when you find him on street? This Raj Thakeray would've remained jobless if he didn't pour vitriol by inventing the "other". He is doing funny things, got his lessons all wrong, he has appropriated Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj for Maharashtra exclusively, now lets declare Maharani Laxmibai a UPite, and Maharana Pratap be exclusively Rajasthani while lets declare Ashoka the Great Emperor of India and Akbar the Great the Emperor of Pakistan and Bangaladesh. Good that he raised this funny SHAGOOFA. At least this time this debate will reach the stage such that the scope for having such ridiculous issue on agenda will hopefully, insha-allah be eliminated, and such Raj like clowns will be taken care of by the Indian State for attempting to invent a problem where none ever existed to stay occupied with something.Thanks.

Raj Thackeray by Dhanish on 17 Feb 2008

Poisons like Raj Thackeray should be eliminated for the betterment of our country. India as a whole is one and it's people have the right to live in any part of the country freely. If Raj Thackeray can be justified, then Maharashtra should be made a separate country. And quoting Gandhi and Bhagat Singh to justify his acts, can never be tolerated. Is he illiterate..? Even illiterate people think better than this poison.

Mahatam of the day, a gunda with sword! by Raju on 17 Feb 2008

What a Kalikal, that even goons and gundas are comparing them with Mahatma Gandhi and an Icon of sactifice like Bhagat Singh! Raj Thakre should know that even his parents may not belong to Bombay as Bombay was small fisherman's village 100 years. Is he not addtion in Bombay? If look right, Bombay has more contribution from non Mahrastrians. And by the way Mahatma's folloers were not terrorizing people with swords.

Regionalism by Priti Sandhu on 16 Feb 2008

Unbelievable!! Does this man have a grey cell or what!! Gandhi and Bhagat Sigh were working to oust the British colonial government from India - a coloniser that stripped India of its pride, dignity and wealth for two hundred years and yoked the Indian people into subjugation. Is this Raj person really equating his political opportunism to the struggle for Indian Independence? And if yes, then what is his end goal? If North Indians' presence in Maharashtra is to be agitated against then what is his vision for India? Why is this man being allowed to make such statements?!! Had he not been arrested? Or was that just an eyewash?

Raj Thackeray speaks about Gandhiji by Bhushan on 16 Feb 2008

If Raj Thackeray is so much dedicated to Maharashtra, why on earth does he refer to Gandhiji and Bhagat Singh (who are not Maharashtrians)? What does he want to prove by making such a statement? These two great people he reffered to fought for INDIA and not for Maharashtra. They promoted unity amongst the country. They did not draw a line between two regions. Thackeray does not even have any reason to refer to great people or even take their names. Harassing and assaulting people from other states in Mumbai and vice-versa in the other states. Is this how the trend is going to be?

Raj- Boycott Bombay/Marathy by seth on 16 Feb 2008

Maharashtra survives becauses of its association and capatilism in India. TATA which has headquarters in Bombay cannot survive without selling its products in other parts of India as well as Reliance. State Bank is not a Marathi even though it is headquartered in India. The non-marathi Indian if they boycott Marathi items it will teach the Marathi. It will slump in no day economically.... Companies will move out.Marathies did it to Tamils before. They do it now to other Indians. Only way they will understand and respect is when they are shown their place is boycott. Boycott Marathy and Bombay. Block the goods going in and out of Maharashtra. Withdraw each day 1% shares of companies headquartered in Bombay. If they donot want people from other parts of India - Others also reciprocate by boycotting Maharashra. Goa can replace the mumbai port. MSE can replace BSE. once the boycott starts big companies will leave Mumbai. Then no one will go there and Raj can enjoy that. There is a right for others to live in Bombay because Bombay is selling products and services to other areas. We can leave Bombay if Marathies- do not sell anything outside of Maharashrta

TO BE RULED BY THE BRITISH ONCE AGAIN by refined indian, educated indian on 16 Feb 2008

WHAT RAJ IS SAYING IS THAT THE NORTH INDIANS DO NOT KNOW HOW TO LIVE A LIFE OF HONESTY AND DISCIPLINED AND LAW ABIDING SOCIETY. IN A WAY RAJ IS RIGHT. EVEN AFTER 60 YEAR OF INDEPENDENCE NORTH INDIANS HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO ERADICATE ILLETERACY AND POVERTY AND DACOITY AND RAPE AND SATHI AND ALL SORTS OF NONSENSE BEHAVIOR IN LIFE. THE PEOPLE IN GENERAL ARE CORRUPT AND UNDEDUCATED AND DO NOT FIT IN THE STREAM OF GOOD SOCIETY. PROSTITUTION AND ILLEGAL DOPE IS THEIR WAY OF LIFE. WE IN THE SOUTH DO NOT LIKE THIS BEHAVIOR SAYS RAJ. AND HE HAS THE RIGHT TO THE VOICE.WHEN WILL INDIANS LEARN FROM THE BRITISH.GOD BLESS INDIANS

Raj is right.."outsiders" must assimilatet into local culture if they like to settle in someone else's land by B. B. Goel on 16 Feb 2008

I don’t know what Raj actually thinks about his latest effort to save marathi culture. If he is serious to do that (rather than only playing politics) , I fully support him. Today the whole India is overpowered by UP-Bihar culture as these people are spreading too fast all around India mainly due to failure of governance in their own states. They do not have any desire to assimilate into any local culture, be it Maharastra or West Bengal or Northe Eastern states or somewhere else. These people need to know that they must accept local culture if they like to settle in someone else’s land. For God’s sake, India was never a homogenous society and never will be. The best way to prosper is to accept that reality and give due respect to that diversity and presevre it (rather than destroying it and insulting people in their own land). The least we can do is acknowledging the local culture and language while exploiting their resources and opportunities. Marwaris, Gujratis, UP-ites Biharis are free to develop another Mumbai in Surat or Meerat or Patna or Bikaner. But if they like to settle in Mumbia they should respect local culture and take their responsibility to assimilate.

Relook Mumabi Strategy by psw on 16 Feb 2008

Raj is just embodying a bigger disease that has gripped some people in Maharashtra. It is time that people of India, relook at investing in Maharastra. As such this is a state with highest number of farmer suicides. These are happening in areas of 0 migrations from outside states. Both Raj and his illustrious uncle always concentrated on Cash rich Mumbai constituencies but never had any time, empathy or sympathy for real Maharashtra. It is unfortunate that these leaders could misguide the Maharastrians from the real problems and put the blame on some body else. For record sake, Mumbai was completely built from scratch by the British. In modern times because of the poor investment climate, Mumabi lost the IT boom. I suggest it is time that IT companies start moving out of Pune as well. There are 10 other indian cities that are friendly to Migrants - Bangalore, Kochi, Chennai, Coimbatore, Hyderabad, Vijayawada and others in the south and Bhubaneshwar, Jaipur, Kolkatta, Delhi, Gurgaon, Mohali in the North. There is nothing special in Mumabi. The Hindi Film industry that moved out of Kolkatta at one time should reconsider relocating to some better place. As for Raj and his supporter let them start dealing with their won problems and let us wait for the time when hsi own people will depise him.And yes, India is the oldest country on the world, with many languages and cultures - most of them originating form Sanskrit and Tamil. Apart from them the phonetics of all these languages is similar, but in terms of family values we have a universal set of values. Let u not be venamous towards Raj as that will be becoming like him. Just send him some roses as he is sick.

My greivances by Moin on 16 Feb 2008

Someone who openly proposes and justifies his views of political goondaism should be barred from politics before it becomes too dangerous. But who will all have joined hands at in the high profile society. No wonder we all indians migrate and live like expatriates in foreign land inspite of having our own soveriegn country.

OMG Raj by S. Nigam on 16 Feb 2008

The more this guy Raj opens his mouth the more stupid he appears. GANDHI BROKE THE LAW WHICH WAS SETUP BY BRITISHERS NOT INDIANS. Gandhi didn't break the Indian Constitution. I am getting sick of this idiot's comments. Raj - just shut up now before you piss off enough people of this country.

Bapu had to break law by M.S.Kamath on 16 Feb 2008

By breaking law Bapu had brought people together for a great cause to fight injustice. He had broken law not to strike terror and make a vote bank to fight the elections.

Raj to Swarjya by Indians for Obama on 16 Feb 2008

Greetings from Indian democrats for Senator Obama, children of Israel and Jews all over the world. We have a special song for God's coming coming glory to the children of Israel and the world."O daughter of Zion, your Lord has come, Lord of Lord has come, full of glory He has come!O daughter of Zion, your King has come, King of King has come, majestically He has come!Hosanna in the highest, Hosanna to the Lord!Glory to God in the heaven,Peace and goodwill be to all men"Amen.

Yeah.. lets call Raj the second Bapu by Abhishek on 16 Feb 2008

Huh... only that Bapu did it to unite the nation, and Mr. Thackrey is doing to break it. He should be thrown out of India for conspiring to break the unity of the Nation.
